Audio Authority Avatrix AVM-562 Quick Start Manual
1. Register
• Go to www.audioauthority.com and enter your product’s serial number to receive future product updates, etc.
2. Add Expander(s)
Details – User Manual page 10.
• Turn the AVAtrix upside down, remove the feet, and attach 1176 and/or 1172 expanders
(for more than two expanders you must install a 7-port bus cable).
• Connect the bus cable firmly to each expander as it is added. Attach feet or rack ears.
• Turn the stack upright. Set the address switch on each expander, in order, from top to bottom: B, C, D, etc.
3. Connect Sources and Local Display
Details – User Manual page 12.
• Connect component video from each source, and connect left and right stereo audio.
• Some sources may use optical digital audio, while others use coax – connect EITHER optical OR coaxial digital audio outputs from
each source, not both. (The AVAtrix converts all digital audio to coax for Cat 5 receivers.)
• Connect all desired audio and video cables from the local AVAtrix output to a local video display and sound system.
• Test all source outputs through the AVAtrix.
4. Connect Cat 5 Receivers
Details – User Manual page 11.
• Pull two Cat 5e/6 cables to each wallplate/receiver location. Use two different Cat 5 jacket colors
to identify A and B cables, or be certain to mark both ends of each cable A or B. Damage may
occur if the cables are connected to the wallplate/receiver incorrectly.
• Use EZ RJ-45 connectors if possible, and a good quality modular connector crimping tool.
• Carefully follow the EIA-568B chart to put the correct pairs together in each RJ-45 termination.
This is essential to proper balanced line system function.
• Use a NETWORK CABLE TESTER to verify that the correct wire colors are paired together
– even when using pre-made cables. CONTINUITY TESTING IS NOT ADEQUATE.
• Before connecting the wallplate/receivers, verify that the A and B cables are correctly identified at
each end of each cable run.
• Connect Cat 5 cables to the wallplate/receivers, THEN connect the Cat 5 cables to the AVAtrix
(and 1176 Expanders) and power the system.
• Connect a video display to each wallplate/receiver, adjusting the gain equalization to the optimal setting before permanent mounting.
5. Install IR System
Details – Page 15.
• Disconnect AVAtrix power, then connect a compatible, 3-wire, 12 volt IR
receiver to each wallplate/receiver as desired.
• Connect IR emitters from AVAtrix outputs to the appropriate source equip-
ment. Connect power.
• DO NOT USE EXTERNALLY POWERED IR EQUIPMENT (e.g. powered
connecting blocks.)
6. Customize
Details – Page19.
• Use the AVAtrix Setup PC Utility to enter source names, assign parental restrictions, assign zone groups, and perform any other de-
sired settings. First, remove the flash memory card from the rear of the AVAtrix and insert it in a PC card reader. Make changes and
save to the card. Insert the card in the AVAtrix and choose “SAVE/LOAD FILE” in the AVAtrix Menu; follow on screen instructions.
• Make refinements to your settings using the front panel controls, and save user setup back to the flash memory card. Store the flash
memory card in a secure place if desired. Lock the front panel controls, if necessary, to prevent unwanted adjustments.
Refer to the AVAtrix Installation Manual for installation details and troubleshooting guide.
