13 Appliance Installation Guide
Performing a Recovery Process
Using a PAR File on an USB Thumb Drive
•
Be sure that the unit is powered off.
•
If you have a configuration backup file (PAR file) and wish to restore using this
configuration, then copy this PAR file to the root directory of the USB thumb
drive. Name it box.par. Otherwise the unit will be reimaged to default
configuration.
•
Then, insert the USB stick into one of the USB connectors of the unit and
switch the appliance on. Depending on the appliance type, it may take a few
minutes until the recovery process will start.
•
During the recovery process, the status LED of the unit will flash with varying
intervals.
•
At the end of the recovery process, the status LED’s flashing will be replaced
by steady green glowing and the unit will beep once.
•
Now, power it off and remove the USB thumb drive.
•
Switch the unit on again. If the system was recovered with a standard
Barracuda manufactured USB thumb drive (autodetection), the unit will
subsequently perform another reboot after adjusting some settings.
•
If the system was recovered using an USB thumb drive generated using the
Barracuda NG Install application specifically for this appliance type, the
second reboot is not necessary and the unit will directly boot into operation
mode.
Please see the latest version of the Barracuda NG Firewall Administrator’s Guide delivered with the unit or
available through http://barracuda.com/doc for an in-depth description of installation and recovery using the unit’s
built-in Active Recovery Technology.
