Preflight
Check Your Radio
Beforegoingtothefield,besurethatyourbatteriesarefully
chargedpertheinstructionsincludedwithyourradio.Charge
boththetransmitterandreceiverpackforyourairplane.Use
therecommendedchargersuppliedwithyourparticularradio
system,followingtheinstructionsprovidedwiththeradio.In
mostcases,theradioshouldbechargedthenightbeforegoing
outflying.
Beforeeachflyingsession,besuretorangecheckyourradio.
Seeyourradiomanualfortherecommendedrangeand
instructionsforyourradiosystem.Eachradiomanufacturer
specifiesdifferentproceduresfortheirradiosystems.Next,start
themotor.Withthemodelsecurelyanchored,checktherange
again.Therangetestshouldnotbesignificantlyaffected.Ifitis,
don’tattempttofly!Haveyourradioequipmentcheckedoutby
themanufacturer.
Note: Keep loose items that can get entangled in
the propeller away from the prop. These include
loose clothing, or other objects such as pencils and
screwdrivers. Especially keep your hands away from the
propeller.
Double-checkthatallcontrols(aileron,elevator,rudderand
throttle)moveinthecorrectdirection.
Checktheradioinstallationandmakesureallthecontrol
surfacesaremovingcorrectly(i.e.thecorrectdirectionandwith
therecommendedthrows).Testrunthemotorandmakesure
ittransitionssmoothlyfromofftofullthrottleandback.Also
ensuretheengineisinstalledaccordingtothemanufacturer’s
instructions,anditwilloperateconsistently.
Checkallthecontrolhorns,servohorns,andclevisestomake
suretheyaresecureandingoodcondition.Replaceanyitems
thatwouldbeconsideredquestionable.Failureofanyofthese
componentsinflightwouldmeanthelossofyouraircraft.
Flying Your Mini ShowTime
FlyingtheMiniShowTimeisaboutasfunasitcangetatthe
park.Averylightwingloadingandextremecontrolthrows
makeforsomeexciting3Dflying.VerifythatyourCGisatthe
correctlocationasperthemanualandthatyouhaveyourrates
setuptoyourliking.Verifyallcontrolthrowsareinthecorrect
directionandthemotorspinsinthecorrectdirectionaswell.
Pointthemodelintothewindandaddsomethrottletrimuntil
themotorbeginstoturn.Thiswillbeyourflightidle.Now,
applypowerslowly.Youwillfindthemodelwillbecome
airborneveryquicklyandatalowspeed.Thismodelexcels
atflyingslowandeasyaswellasfastandextreme.Trimthe
modelforlevelflightathalfthrottle.Onlyusefullthrottlefor
maneuvering.Itisnotrecommendedtoflythismodelfastor
atfullthrottleinlevelflight.Doingthiscanresultintheflight
controlsflutteringandapotentialcatastrophicfailureofthe
airframe.
YouwillfindyoucanadjusttheCGtoyourlikingbymoving
thebatterypackforeoraftindidethefuselage.Alsokeepthe
batteryonthefuselagemountedhigh(atleastatwingcenterline
orabove)tohelpinhoveringmaneuversandharriers.
TolandtheMiniShowTimejustreducethethrottletoidleand
feedinupelevatoruntilthemodelsettlesintoaslightlynose
highattitude.Gentlyflythemodeldowntothelandingspotwith
afinalflairattouchdown.Youwillfindthemodelwillhavea
veryshortrollout.WehopeyouenjoytheMiniShowTimeas
muchaswedo.
