ICP BatterySAVER Plus Operating Instructions - page 2
Q1: Will the BatterySAVER PLUS keep my vehicle battery charged?
The BatterySAVER PLUS trickle charger will eliminate dead batteries caused by natural voltage losses and key-off small
instrumentation drains. Electronics such as clocks and vehicle alarms add to the natural drain of the battery, even when the
ignition is off. The BatterySAVER PLUS compensates for those constant losses by replenishing your battery at a maximum
rate of 125mAmps per hour in full sunlight.
Q2: How long will it take for the BatterySAVER PLUS to charge a dead battery?
Depending on battery age, type and condition, the natural rate of loss on a new battery represents a small fraction of one
percent per month. The BatterySAVER PLUS is designed to compensate for these losses plus any additional losses due to on
board electronic instrumentation such as clocks and alarms. The power generated by the BatterySAVER PLUS is not enough
to recharge a dead battery. If you would like to recharge a depleted battery, we suggest that you look at the BatterySAVER
PRO15W or larger.
Q3: What types of batteries can I trickle charge?
You can trickle charge all types of 12 Volt batteries including automotive batteries, deep cycle (traction) batteries, gel-cell
batteries, and heavy-duty (stationary) batteries.
Q4: Can the BatterySAVER PLUS drain my battery at night?
No. All ICP Solar panels are equipped with a built-in diode, which prevents any reverse current.
Q5: Can I overcharge my battery with the BatterySAVER PLUS?
The BatterySAVER PLUS will not overcharge a vehicle battery.
Q6: Can I start my vehicle with the BatterySAVER PLUS connected to the cigarette lighter and/or power outlet?
Yes. The BatterySAVER PLUS can remain connected while the vehicle is operating. As a safety precaution while driving,
either store the panel under the seat, or, using the mounting brackets on the back of the panel, securely attach the
BatterySAVER PLUS to the dashboard.
Q7: Can I attach the BatterySAVER PLUS directly to the battery?
In situations where the cigarette (or power) socket is inactive while the vehicle is off, it may be necessary to attach the panel
directly to the battery. This may be done by: A) Cutting off the cigarette lighter attachment and attaching the stripped wires
directly to the battery, Negative to Negative (Black to Black) and Positive to Positive. Then, for safety, install a 3 Amp fuse on
the positive wire OR B) If you don't want to cut off the cigarette lighter adapter, just acquire a female cigarette socket
extension wired with clamps (available at most hardware stores). Attach this directly to the battery. Plug the male adapter of
the BatterySAVER PLUS into the female socket.
Q8: Can the wiring be extended?
You can extend the wiring of our solar chargers another 27 feet (fo r a Maximum of 35 feet) using 16-gauge wire, without any
significant loss of power.
Q9: Can I trickle charge more than one battery at a time with the BatterySAVER PLUS?
The BatterySAVER PLUS may be able to trickle charge more than one of the smaller battery types, such as batteries for;
snowmobiles, motorcycles, or ATV's etc. However, it is not designed to maintain more than one automobile battery at a time.
For two batteries or more we recommend the BatterySAVER PRO5W to maintain voltage.
