Troubleshooting
Herearesometroubleshootingsuggestions:
A. The fixture does not work, there is no light output.
1.)Checktheconnectionofpowerandmainfuse.
2.)Measurethevoltageoutputonyourpowerreceptacletoensurepropervoltage.
B. Fixture does not respond to DMX control.
1.)DMXLEDshouldbeon.Ifnot,checkDMXconnectorsandcablesforproper
connection.
2.)IfDMXLEDisonbutnotrespondingtoachannel,checktheDMXaddress
settingsandDMXpolarity.
3.)IfyouhaveintermittentDMXsignalproblems,checkthepinsonthecable
connectorsandonthefixture.
4.)TrytouseadifferentDMXcontroller.
5.)InterferencemayoccurifDMXcablesarerunalongsidehighvoltagecables.
C. Fixture responds erratically to DMX control.
1.)YoumayhaveabreakintheDMXcabling.ChecktheLEDfortheresponseof
themaster/slavemodesignal.
2.)WrongDMXaddressinthefixture.Setthefixturetotheproperaddress.
3.)UseofmicrophonecablesforDMXconnectionscancauseerrors
D. The fixture doesn’t respond to sound.
1.)MakesurethefixtureisnotsettoreceiveaDMXsignal.
2.)Checkthefixture’sinternalmicrophonebytappingthemicrophone.
DMX General Information
TheDMX512digitalcommunicationprotocolwasintroducedtocontrolstagelighting
and special effects.
TheDMXstandardfeatures512availablechannels,andtheyareassignableinany
sequencethatconformstotheuser’sneeds.EachDMX-capablefixturerequires
oneormoresequentialchannels.Astartingaddress,whichindicatesthefirstcontrol
channelreservedforthatparticularfixture,mustbeassignedtothefixturebefore
thecontrollercanrecognizeit.DMXcontrollablefixturesmayvaryinthenumberof
channelstheyrequire,dependingonthefixturesfeaturesand/orfunctionality.
Channelsshouldneverbepermittedtooverlap;otherwise,forexample,afaderthat
controlsblueoutputononefixturemaycausestrobingordimmingonanadjacent,
incorrectlyassignedfixture.Multiplefixturesofthesametypethatuseanidentical
startingaddresswillfunctioninunison.Fixturesassignedproperlyspacedstarting
addresseswilloperateindividually,butaDMXcontrollerwithsufficientchannelscan
beconfiguredtorunthesesamefixtureseithercombinedorindependently.
ThesequenceinwhichDMXfixturesareconnectedhasnoeffectonhowacontroller
communicateswitheachindividuallightingfixture.Although3-pinXLRmiccables
maybeusedtoconnectDMXfixturesovershortruns,longerdistanceswillintroduce
dataerrorsduetothemiccable’sincorrectimpedance.Forbestresults,Talent
Sound&Lightingrecommendstheuseofcorrect120ohm,low-capacitance,twisted
paircabledesignedfortheDMX512protocol.Itisalsosuggestedthatatermination
resistorplugbeusedontheoutputconnectorofthelastfixtureinanarrayofDMX
instruments.Thisresistanceensuresproperdatatransmission.
