Location Mapping detects and determines the physical location of any network device
connected to a 3Com
®
NJ205 IntelliJack
™
Switch. This key management feature is built
into the 3Com Central Configuration Manager software that comes bundled with the
NJ205 IntelliJack Switch.
Benefits
3Com Location Mapping is unique to 3Com NJ200 Network Jacks and NJ205 IntelliJack
Switches. No other switching product today can provide the same level of device-loca-
tion information. Integrated as part of 3Com Central Configuration Manager, this
device-mapping utility is invaluable for isolating network problems, troubleshooting
devices, or managing IT asset inventories.
Specifically, Location Mapping enables IT staff to:
• Identify the physical location of any device connected to an NJ205 IntelliJack Switch
• Monitor, troubleshoot, isolate, and resolve network problems more efficiently
• Inventory network equipment easily and accurately from a central console

enables point-and-click remote administration of
NJ205 IntelliJack Switches.
Configuration and Setup
To enable the Location Mapping feature, each NJ205 IntelliJack Switch must be
assigned a location-specific identifier. This is easily accomplished after installation on
the network, using the 3Com Central Configuration Manager software that comes bun-
dled with the NJ205 IntelliJack Switch.
The following example highlights how easy it is to configure the location identifier for a
3Com NJ205 IntelliJack Switch:
