3M 8900B Series Owner's Manual - System Operation
System operation
Turn the system on and off
There are two possible methods of powering the system:
• If the system is hard-wired to a power distribution panel, switch the system on or off using a power disconnect switch or
circuit breaker.
• If the system is equipped with a power cord, plug or unplug the cord.
• The system may be hard-wired into the power distribution panel of the facility’s electrical system, in which case, the system is
switched on or off at a power disconnect switch or at the circuit-breaker for the circuit that supplies power to it.
• The system may be equipped with an AC power cord (or two AC power cords, one at each end of the detection system), in which
case the system is on while power cord(s) are connected to live power outlet(s) and off when power is disconnected.
Note:
If the detection system is connected to power at both ends of the system, connect or disconnect power at
both locations
.
Verify system operation
Verify system operation each day. Do this by walking through each corridor with a library item that has security set on its RFID
tag. Each trip through the corridor should trigger an alarm.
Verify patron count operation
Each corridor is equipped with a patron counter that keeps track of the patron count for that corridor. You should verify patron
count operation for each corridor each day, which requires that you know how the technician configured the patron counter to
work. If it was configured to:
• Count outgoing traffic only, exit the library through each corridor and see if the counter increments by one.
• Count incoming traffic only, enter the library through each corridor and see if the counter increments by one.
• Count both outgoing and incoming traffic, enter and exit the library through each corridor and see if it increments by one when
you enter and by one when you exit.
Adjust speaker volume
Each lattice has a speaker inside its base. If alarm volume is too loud or too soft, it can be adjusted.
Note:
You will need a small (4 mm [0.16 in.] maximum diameter) flat blade screwdriver.
To adjust speaker volume
1.
Locate the speaker volume adjustment knob inside the opening for the speaker in the lattice base cover, next to the speaker.
