Donning the Blower and Respirator
Initial Donning
Prepare to don the blower, battery and facepiece in a safe, hazard-free area
and do the following:
• Ensure that the cartridge used is suitable for the contaminant in question
and is compatible with the EVA Blower Unit.
• Check that the cartridge is properly mounted on the blower unit.
• Prior to assembling the system, place the battery in the battery
compartment on the back of the blower. Fit the blower and belt around
the user’s waist. With the blower at the rear of the user, adjust the belt
for a comfortable fit.
• Remove the belt and blower.
• Screw the breathing tube into the mask inlet until tight.
(See Figure 15)
Donning the FAMB Mask
WARNING
Do not wear the EVA half mask PAPR if facial hair is present that comes between the
sealing surface of the facepiece and the face, or that interferes with valve function.
Failure to follow these instructions could result in death or serious injury.
• Loosen the mask’s elastic straps.
• Grasp the front of the facepiece with one hand and the upper strap with
the other hand.
• Position the respirator on your face so that the inside portion of the
facepiece is under your chin and the narrow portion of the facepiece is
over your nose.
• Place the plastic headband straps on your head so the top plastic strap
rests across the top your head and the bottom plastic strap rests above
your ears on the back of your head.
• Then hook the bottom elastic headband
straps behind your neck and below your
ears.
• Adjust the position of the facepiece on
your face for a comfortable fit. If the
elastic straps are too tight or too loose
then remove the respirator from your
face and adjust. Do not over-tighten
as it may distort the mask and cause
leakage.
• Perform a negative
pressure seal check:
A) With mask on and
secured, place the palm of
your hand over the end of
the air entry
B) Inhale until the mask
collapses inward
slightly (indicating there is a negative
pressure). Hold your breath for five seconds.
C) The mask is deemed to be in proper position if it remained collapsed
while the breath was being held and no inward leakage of outside air is
detected.
D) If mask doesn’t collapse or if an inward leak is detected, re-adjust mask
on face and repeat above steps until the test is passed.
WARNING
Persons wearing tight fitting masks, such as the FAMB series, are
required by OSHA to be fit tested before initial use and at least annually
thereafter. Seal checks are to be performed before each use. If you
cannot attain a proper fit test and seal, try another mask size and repeat
the steps outline previously. If a proper fit and seal is still not achieved
do not use the respirator.
Turn on the blower, and attach the
breathing tube to the blower. With the air
flowing into your respirator, you are now
ready to enter the work area.
WARNING
The mask over must be used when operating this respirator. This part
protects the exhalation valve from outside interference. Failure to follow
these instructions could result in death or serious injury.
