Faronics Core Security
Faronics Core uses Security Certificates to ensure secure communication between the Core
Console, Core Server and Core Agent.
The Security Certificate consists of the following:
•
Public Key — used to Encrypt the communication.
•
Private Key — used to Decrypt the communication.
A Public Key and Private Key are always paired. For every Public Key, there is one and only one
Private Key.
The Faronics Core components have the following:
•
Core Server — Public Key and Private Key
•
Core Console — Public Key
•
Core Agent — Public Key
Exporting/Importing the Public Key
While installing Core Console and Core Server, it is highly recommended to export the Public Key.
The .cer file contains the Public Key. Multiple Core Consoles can connect to the same Core Server
by sharing the Public Key.
Complete the following steps:
1. Connect to a Core Server as specified in
Connecting to a Core Server
.
2. The Certificate and Thumbprint are displayed.
3. Click Import.
4. Repeat this procedure on multiple Core Consoles that need to connect to the same Core
Server.
Now, multiple Core Consoles can connect to the same Core Server.
Exporting/Importing the Private Key
While installing Core Console and Core Server, it is very important to export the Private Key. The
Private Key can be used by multiple Core Servers to decrypt the information sent by the same
Core Agent.
This might be useful when multiple Core Servers have to manage the same set of workstations in
an organization. Although a workstation can connect to only one Core Server at a time, this can be
changed by re-installing/upgrading the Core Agent on the workstation so that it can report to
another Core Server.
Complete the following steps:
1. Export the Private Key on one Core Server as specified in
Configuration Wizard
.
2. Transfer the Private Key to another Core Server.
3. Import the same Private Key as specified in
Configuration Wizard
. Select Import an existing
certificate in step 2 and import the .pfx file (this contains the Public Key and the Private Key).
