Description
Interface Characteristics
The D8HS data module provides the DXC with eight high-speed data channels. It
is available with a number of serial data interfaces: RS-232, RS-422, V.35, or
X.21.
The module is supplied with a 200-pin connector. Splitter cables can be ordered
from RAD to split it into eight interface connectors depending on the application.

Each data channel can support data rates of n x 56 or n x 64 kbps (where n = 1
to 24 for T1 and 1 to 32 for E1 links). Channel data rates and all other operating
parameters are soft-selectable through the DXC management system.
Each port locally supports four control signals:
• RTS
• CTS (can be programmed to follow RTS or be constantly ON)
• DSR (ON except when the port is in loopback or under BERT test)
• DCD (constantly ON, except when communication are not possible because of
an alarm condition on the other module, e.g., red alarm or local loss of frame
alignment).
Timing
Programmable timing modes permit each channel to be configured as either DCE
or DTE and provide buffered retiming of the received data.
Each high-speed data port has three user-programmable timing modes:
• DCE: the high-speed data port provides the transmit and receive clock signals
to the equipment (DTE) connected to it. The clock signals are locked to the
DXC internal master clock.
• DTE1: the high-speed data port provides the outgoing clock signal, and
accepts an incoming clock signal from the equipment connected to the port.
This mode is suitable for tail-end applications.
• DTE2: the high-speed data port accepts the receive and transmit timing
signals from the equipment connected to the port, and buffers and retimes
the incoming data. This requires the master clock signal of the DXC to be
either locked to the receive signal of that port, or to the same timing source
that is used by the equipment connected to that port.
This is practical when the high-speed data port is connected to the national
network or to private carrier data lines.
