each turn of the crank. When the user at the far-end picks up the handset, the
conversation can begin.
VC-6/4LB Only:
As the initiator turns the crank, an internal timer is started. The
timer limit is user-set for either 2, 3, or 5 minutes, or for an unlimited period. This
timer will “end” the call (send an “on-hook” signal) after the prescribed period has
expired. Every time the crank is turned, the timer is restarted.
LB to PBX Application – Full (VC-6/4LB Only)
The VC-6/LB does not include an internal timer for full LB to PBX functionality.
However, it can be connected to a PBX provided the PBX can permanently allocate
an extension for the LB line. This extension remains constantly open and functions
like a "hot line".
In the LB to PBX application shown in
Figure 1-3
, the local LB phone is connected
to the remote site, via a digital PBX extension. This configuration permits the
connection of the local LB phones not only to the remote LB telephones
connected to the remote Megaplex, but also to other LB or regular telephones, as
an extension of a PBX. The local LB telephone then becomes a regular PBX
extension, which can be dialed by other callers using standard procedures, and
can be routed by the PBX to connect to any other PBX extension.

LB calls to PBX side
To make a call, the initiating user turns the crank on his LB phone. The local
VC-6/4LB module will then send an “off-hook” signal to the PBX, causing the
remote phone to ring. If the remote phone is an LB phone, it will ring 2 seconds
for every turn of the crank. If the PBX returns an “off-hook” signal then the
conversation with the remote side can begin. If no “off-hook” signal is received
from the PBX within 1 minute, the initiating VC-6/4LB module will terminate the
call. Every time the crank is turned, the timer is restarted.
If, during the conversation, the PBX sends an “on-hook” signal to the local
VC-6/4LB module, it will terminate the call. If not, the call will be terminated after
the internal call timer (which is started when the “off-hook” signal was received
from the PBX) has expired. The timer limit for PBX applications is user-set for
