Introduction
The GR64 provides the capability to access the SIM using a feature known as the SIM
speed enhancement. This feature is off by default but may be enabled using an AT
command.
2
Overview
2.1 Background
The SIM speed enhancement is a feature that was introduced in the Release 96
version of the SIM specification (3GPP TS 11.11). The feature is an improvement to
the communication between the ME and the SIM. The time to read the information
from the SIM during initialization is greatly reduced (50% or more) with the SIM speed
enhancement. Since the feature was added into the specification, it may not be
supported by older SIMs. For devices using these older SIMs, the feature should
remain disabled.
2.2 Wavecom Implementation
Since the SIM speed enhancement is not supported by all SIMs, this option was made
configurable using the Wavecom Feature Management AT command. This command
was added to the QBGC software in Release 3. By default the SIM speed enhancement
is disabled. It can be enabled using the AT+WFM command and then saved to the
profile. After a restart, all communication to/from the SIM will use the SIM speed
enhancement protocol.
