1. Introduction
The Long Range Ethernet Extender, a G.SHDSL (Single-pair High-bit-rate Digital
Subscriber Line) Ethernet Network Extender, provides a broadband full duplex
transmission with bandwidth aggregation up to 10.8Mbps over two pairs of copper
wire for point-to-point LAN connectivity between two Ethernet networks. This is
enough speed to support VoIP, Web hosting, and teleconferencing.
The EIDM-EXTEND-2 conforms to the ITU-T Rec. G.991.2, to meet G.shdsl.bis
network requirements. It offers a cost-effective symmetrical broadband solution for
applications such as LAN to LAN, Internet access, and VoIP. Each Ethernet
Extender can be configured into either STU-C (SHDSL Transceiver Unit) for central
side or STU-R for remote side.
Distances can reach up to 7,000 feet (about 2.1 Km) and 10,000 feet (about 3 Km) at
the maximum rate of 10.8 Mbps and 9.216Mbps with two pairs of 24AWG (0.5 mm)
copper wire, and could reach 20,500 feet (about 6.2 Km) at 192Kbps. Users can also
select a fixed data rate for the copper lines ranging from 192Kbps to 10.8Mbps. The
Ethernet Extender provides a console port for users to configure the settings and to
monitor the connection status.
