the valves).
6) Control that combustion occurs
correctly by using the appro-
priate instruments (CO
= about
10% for methane gas - CO max.
= 0.1%).
7) After regulation, turn the burner
off and on again several times
tocheckthatignitionoccurscor-
rectly.
8)Whenthehasstartedupitisne-
cessary to check as previously
shown,thegasdeliveryandthe
combustion with the appropriate
instruments. When the results
are known, necessary, proceed
withvaryingthegasdeliveryand
relative combustion air in order
toadaptdeliverytothatrequired
for the specific case (boiler po-
tentiality). It’s also necessary to
checkiftheCO
and CO values
are adequate (CO
max. = about
10% for methane gas and CO =
0.1%).
9)Controltheefficiencyofthesa-
fety devices: the “shut down”
(by detaching the ionisation
electrode cable), the air pres-
sure switch, the gas pressure
switch,thegaspressureswitch
and the thermostats).
AIR REGULATION ON THE
COMBUSTION HEAD (see
BT 8769/2 and 0002932161)
The combustion head is equip-
pedwitharegulatingdevicewhich
closes and opens the air passage
betweenthediskandthehead.By
closing the passage it’s possible to
achieve high pressure upstream
thediskforlowinputsaswell.High
velocity and turbulence ensure a
better penetration in the fuel, an op-
timummixtureandgoodflamesta-
bility.Itmightbenecessarytohave
highairpressureupstreamthedisk
inordertoavoidflamepulsationand
it’sconsideredpracticallyindispen-
sablewhentheburnerisoperating
with a pressurised furnace and/or
thermal load. It’s evident from the
above, that the device which clo-
ses the air on the combustion head
should be put in such a position as
to always
obtainadecidedlyhigh
airpressurevaluebehindthedisk.
It’s advisable to regulate in such a
wayastoachieveaclosingofthe
aironthehead;thiswillnecessitate
a considerable opening of the air
shutterwhichregulatestheflowto
theburner’sfansuction.Obviously,
these adjustments should be car-
riedoutwhentheburnerisopera-
ting at maximum delivery desired.
Inpractice,startregulatingbyput-
ting the device which closes the
air on the combustion head in an
intermediate position, start up the
burnerandmaketrialadjustments
aspreviouslydescribed.
When maximum delivery desired
has been reached, proceed with
correcting the position of the devi-
cewhichclosestheaironthecom-
bustionhead;moveitbackwardsor
forwardsinsuchawayastoobtain
anairflowsuitabletothedelivery,
with the air regulation shutter
in suction considerably open.
Whenreducingtheairpassageon
the combustion head, avoid closing
itcompletely.
N.B. Check that ignition occurs
regularly, because if the passage
between the disk and the head is
closed, it could occur that the air ve-
locityissohighastorenderignition
difficult. If this happens, gradually
open the regulator until it reaches
the correct position and ignition oc-
cursregularly.Thispositionshould
bedefinitive.
MAINTENANCE
The burner does not require special
maintenance, but it is good prac-
tice to check periodically that the
gasfilteriscleanandthattheigni-
tionelectrodeisefficient.Itisalso
necessary to verify that the igni-
tion electrode’s spark is produced
between the same electrode and
thedisk.Thecombustionheadmay
need cleaning. During re-assem-
bly,specialattentionmustbepaid
to centring exactly the electrodes
(ignitionandflamedetection)inor-
der to avoid them going to earth or
short-circuiting which would result
inthe“shutdown”oftheburner.
USE OF THE BURNER
Theburneroperatesfullyautomati-
cally,thereforeitisnonnecessary
tocarryoutanykindatadjustment
during its operating. The “block”
position is a safety position rea-
ched by the burner automatically
when some of the components of
theburnersortheplantdonotwork
properly.
It is necessary to check then
whetherthecausetotheproblemis
adangerousonebeforeunblocking
the burner.
The causes to the block may be
temporary,forexamplewhenairin
inside the pipes.
When it is unblocked, the burner
starts operating properly. If the
burner stops three or four times at
a stretch, it is necessary either to

positionwithoutanylimitintime.
Inemergencycasesitisadvisable
to close the fuel valve, and to di-
sconnecttheburnerelectrically.
