Statutory Regulations!
Additional regulations for certain vehicles named
in Directive 94 / 55 / EC of the ADR Agreement
Scope
Thisappendixappliestovehiclesforwhichthespecial
provisionsofDirective94/55/ECapplytocombustion
heatersandtheirinstallation.
Definition of terms used
Thevehicledesignations“EX/II”,“EX/III”,“AT”,“FL”
and“OX”accordingtoChapter9.1oftheADRAgree-
mentDirective94/55/ECareusedforthepurposes
ofthisannex.
Technical regulations
General provisions (EX / II, EX / III, AT, FL and OX
vehicles)
Avoid heating and ignition
Combustionheatersandtheirexhaustpipesmustbe
designed,arranged,protectedorcoveredsothatany
unacceptableriskofheatingorignitionoftheloadis
avoided.Thisregulationisdeemedtobecompliedwith
ifthefueltankandtheexhaustsystemoftheunitcon-
formtotheregulationsdescribedinthe“Fueltank”and
“Exhaustsystemandexhaustpipelayout”paragraphs.
Thecompletevehiclemustbecheckedforcompliance
withtheseregulations.
Fuel tanks
Fueltanksforsupplyingtheheatershallconformtothe
followingregulations:
•Intheeventofanyleakage,thefuelshalldraintothe
groundwithoutcomingintocontactwithhotpartsof
thevehicleortheload;
•fueltankscontainingpetrolshallbeequippedwith
aneffectiveflametrapatthefilleropeningorwitha
closureenablingtheopeningtobekepthermetically
sealed.
Exhaust system and exhaust pipe layout
Theexhaustsystemaswellastheexhaustpipesshall
laidoutorprotectedtoavoidanydangertotheload
throughheatingorignition.Partsoftheexhaustsystem
situateddirectlybelowthefueltank(diesel)shallhave
aclearanceofatleast100mmorbeprotectedbya
thermalshield.
Switching on the combustion heater
Thecombustionheatermayonlybeswitchedonmanu-
ally.Automaticswitchingonviaaprogrammableswitch
isnotpermitted.
EX / II and EX / III vehicles
Combustionheatersforgaseousfuelsarenotpermit-
ted.
FL vehicles
Combustionheatersmustbeabletobetakenoutof
service/disabledatleastbythemethodsdescribedin
thefollowing:
a) Switchingoffmanuallyinthedriver‘scabin
b) Switchingoffthevehicle‘sengine;inthiscasethe
heatermaybemanuallyswitchedbackonbythe
vehicledriver;
c) Startingupofafeedpumpinstalledinthevehiclefor
thedangerousgoodscarried.
Combustionheaterafterrun
Afterrunningoftheswitchedoffcombustionheateris
permitted.Inthecasesnamedinthe„FLvehicles“para-
graphunderlettersb)andc)thesupplyofcombustion
airmustbeinterruptedbysuitablemeansafteramaxi-
mumafterrunperiodof40seconds.Onlycombustion
heaterswhoseheatexchangersareverifiablynotdam-
agedbythereducedafterrunperiodof40seconds
beyondtheirusualuseperiodmaybeused.

•Compliancewiththestatutoryregulations,theaddi-
tionalregulationsandsafetyinstructionsisprerequisite
forguaranteeandliabilityclaims.
Failuretocomplywiththestatutoryregulationsand
safetyinstructionsandincorrectrepairsevenwhen
usingoriginalsparepartsmaketheguaranteenulland
voidandprecludeanyliabilityforEberspächerClimate
ControlSystemsGmbH&Co.KG.
•Subsequentinstallationofthisheatermustcomply
withtheseinstallationinstructions.
•Thestatutoryregulationsarebindingandmustalsobe
observedincountrieswhichdonothaveanyspecial
regulations.
•Whentheheateristobeinstalledinvehiclesnot
subjecttotheGermanOrdinancefortheRegistra-
tionofMotorVehicles(StVZO),forexampleships,the
speciallyvalidregulationsandinstallationinstructions
forthesespecialapplicationsmustbeobserved.
•Installationoftheheaterinspecialvehiclesmust
complywiththeregulationsapplyingtosuchvehicles
•Otherinstallationrequirementsarecontainedinthe
correspondingsectionsofthismanual.
