Integrated LAN Adapter
Integrated LAN Adapter offers greater configuration
options for the S/390 environments with the ability to
connect to a wide range of network protocols including
Token-Ring and Fast Ethernet. Integrated LAN Adapter
feature is plugged directly into a standard PCI slot, be-
coming an integral component of the system, enabling
convenient LAN attachment.
There are two types of Integrated LAN Adapter:
Fast Ethernet and Token-Ring. Both adapters provide
single ports.
Integrated LAN Adapter feature supports attachment to
LAN switches, a cost effective technique for addressing
the demand for network bandwidth, avoiding the costs
associated with LAN segmentation.
Integrated LAN Adapter features also support full-duplex
(bidirectional) communication with devices on dedicated
segments such as IBM's 8271 EtherStreamer
®
Switch and
8272 LANStreamer
®
switch. Full duplex support for
the Token-Ring and Ethernet environments permits a
simultaneous transmit and receive for an effective
throughput of 20 Mbps (Ethernet), and 32 Mbps
(Token-Ring).
Higher speed connectivity in the Ethernet environment
is offered by the Fast Ethernet feature. Supporting 100
Mbps with an effective full duplex throughput of 200
Mbps, Fast Ethernet provides direct access from the
S/390 server to high bandwidth and high capacity cam-
pus LAN backbones. It is a cost-effective solution to sat-
isfying network performance problems.
Cryptographic Coprocessor Feature
IBM leads the industry by offering the first CMOS Crypto-
graphic Coprocessor as an optional feature on
S/390 Multiprise 3000 models to meet the increasing
needs for data security and integrity. The Cryptographic
Coprocessor hardware, which is a member of the
SecureWay
®
family of products, is implemented in CMOS
technology on a single chip, providing more capability
than any previous cryptographic offering. Included in the
design is battery backed nonvolatile memory storage, laser
delete chip personalization, integrated tamper detection
and response, and high speed DES, DSS, RSA, Pseudo
Random Number Generation and hashing algorithms.
New applications developed by independent software
developers can enable customers to exploit many more
opportunities worldwide in the increasingly important
area of Digital Signatures. The current exploiters, SDM
and CONNEX, which are available today, are joined by
BSAFE, an RSA Inc. product used by over 14 million cus-
tomers.* With these exploiters incorporating our Crypto-
graphic Coprocessor functions into their products, the
information explosion we see today can expand with a
much higher level of privacy and integrity.
The Trusted Key Entry (TKE) Workstation is an optional
feature. This workstation provides a highly secure, remote
and flexible method to provide Master Key Entry. It utilizes
Digital Signature, Diffie-Hellman and DES functions to
provide a highly secure, auditable and remote method of
key entry and should be used by those customers requir-
ing extra security for key entry. An optional SmartCard
Reader can also be attached permitting secure storage,
convenient transport and rapid re-entry of key parts. This
cost-effective package is the first step for enabling migra-
tion through the second millennium challenge.

ers of those products, their published announcements or other publicly
available sources. IBM has not tested these products and cannot confirm
the accuracy of performance, compatibility or any other claims related to
non-IBM products. Questions regarding the capabilities of non-IBM prod-
ucts should be addressed to the suppliers of those products.
