Driveline Hook-up to Tractor
!
WARNING
To prevent serious injury or death:
•
Do not engage power take-off while hooking-up orÂ
unhooking driveline, or while someone is standing near theÂ
driveline. A personâs body and/or clothing can becomeÂ
â¢
All guards and shields must be installed and in goodÂ
working condition while operating implement.
â¢
Select a safe ground speed when transporting. Never travelÂ
at a speed which does not allow adequate control of steeringÂ
and stopping, and never exceed 20 mph with attachedÂ
equipment. Some rough terrains require a slower speed.
â¢
Do not use a power take-off adapter. The adapter willÂ
increase strain on the tractorâs power take-off shaft causingÂ
possible damage to shaft and driveline. It will also defeatÂ
the purpose of the tractorâs power take-off shield.
â¢
Always disengage power take-off, place tractor in park orÂ
set park brake, shut tractor engine off, remove switch key,Â
and wait for all moving parts to stop before dismountingÂ
Refer to Figure 1-3 on page 12:
1.
Pull outer driveline (#10) and inner driveline (#11)Â
apart. Apply multi-purpose grease to inside of outerÂ
profile and reassemble the two profiles.
2.
Pull back on pull collar (#3) and hold while starting toÂ
slide the universal joint onto the tractorâs PTO shaft.
3.
Once driveline starts onto the PTO shaft, release pullÂ
collar and continue to slide universal joint on until pullÂ
collar releases and locks universal joint to theÂ
tractorâs PTOÂ shaft.
4.
Push and pull on yokes at both ends of driveline toÂ
make certain they are securely fastened to tractorÂ
PTO shaft and mower gearbox shaft.
IMPORTANT:Â
An additional driveline may beÂ
required if implement is hooked to different tractorsÂ
IMPORTANT:Â
The driveline must be lubricatedÂ
before putting it into service. Refer toÂ
NOTE:Â Â
SeeÂ
 if driveline is tooÂ
long and will not go onto the tractorâs PTO shaft.
Check Collapsible Length
Figure 1-6
Check Driveline Collapsible Length
Refer to Figure 1-6:
1.
Make sure driveline is installed properly to the mowerÂ
gearbox input shaft and tractor PTO shaft beforeÂ
checking driveline collapsed length. Refer toÂ
âDriveline Hook-up to Gearboxâ
2.
With driveline level, measure 1" (
âBâ
 dimension)Â
back from universal joint shield to end of outerÂ
driveline shield as shown in Figure 1-6.Â
a. If measurement is less than 1", shorten driveline.Â
a. If measurement is 1" or more, skip toÂ
Maximum Allowable LengthâÂ
Shorten Driveline
Refer to Figure 1-6:
1.
Unhook driveline from tractor PTO shaft and gearboxÂ
shaft.
2.
Raise 3-Point arms until mower gearbox shaft andÂ
tractor PTO shaft are approximately level with eachÂ
other.Â
3.
Support mower deck at this height with support jacksÂ
or support blocks to keep PTO and gearbox shaftsÂ
level while shorting the driveline.Â
4.
Place gear selector in park, set park brake, shutÂ
tractor off and remove switch key.
5.
Pull driveline apart as shown in Figure 1-6.Â
6.
Attach outer driveline universal joint to tractor PTOÂ
shaft and inner driveline universal joint to mowerÂ
gearbox shaft. Pull on each driveline section to beÂ
sure universal joints are properly secured.

IMPORTANT:Â
A driveline that is too long can bottomÂ
out causing structural damage to the tractor andÂ
implement. Always check driveline minimum lengthÂ
during initial setup, when connecting to a differentÂ
tractor, and when alternating between using a quickÂ
