Blade Sharpening or Replacement
!
CAUTION
To prevent serious injury:
ALWAYS wear eye protection and gloves while inspecting,Â
removing, sharpening, and replacing mower blades.
1.
If the blade cutting edge is dull or nicked, it should beÂ
replaced or sharpened. Remove blades by graspingÂ
the end of blade using a rag or a thick, padded glove,Â
while loosening and removing the blade mountingÂ
bolt/bolts.
Refer to Figure 5-2:
2.
Clean blade, blade washer, and mounting surface ofÂ
all debris before replacing or sharpening. GrindÂ
cutting edge at the same bevel as the original.Â
Sharpen only the top of the cutting edge to maintainÂ
sharpness.

Refer to Figure 5-3:
3.
Check blade balance by positioning the bladeÂ
horizontally on a nail or shaft through the center hole.Â
If either end of the blade rotates downward, grindÂ
(remove) metal on that end until the blade willÂ
balance. The blade is properly balanced whenÂ
neither end drops. Balance of a blade is generallyÂ
maintained by removing an equal amount of materialÂ
from each end of the blade when sharpening.

IMPORTANT:Â
Replace mower blades in pairs withÂ
genuine Land Pride blades only. Not replacing bothÂ
blades will result in an out-of-balance condition.
NOTE:Â Â
Care should be taken in order not to removeÂ
any more material than necessary to sharpen blade.

1.
Remove the right-hand and the left-hand belt covers.Â
2.
Disengage belt tension by loosening the eyebolt (#1)Â
and removing the spring (#2) from the tension-chainÂ
link (#3).
3.
With tension relieved from belt remove old belt fromÂ
pulleys.
4.
To install a new belt be sure the belt is positioned inÂ
all the pulley grooves. Engage belt tension byÂ
assembling the tension spring back on the eyeboltÂ
and tightening the eyebolt to apply tension to newÂ
belt. Check the belt tension, refer toÂ
5.
Reinstall all belt covers and secure in place withÂ
