Settings and Configuration 

The Secondary Display Adapter communicates with the N-series device via DDC interface and as such 

requires no manual setup process with regards to resolution and color depth. The optimal native 

resolution settings are automatically used. It should be noted however that DDC requires that the 

secondary monitor be powered on, and that the Secondary Display Adapter be connected to the N-

series device when the N-series device is powered on. This is not a “plug and play” connection.  

If at any time the Secondary Display Adapter is disconnected from the N-series device, the N-series 

device will need to be powered down and the Secondary Display Adapter reconnected in order for the 

secondary display to be correctly detected and configured again (in accordance with the previously 

outlined installation steps). 

The N-series device’s primary display will continue to function and be configured as outlined in the N-

series User Manual.  

Additional Notes 

Unlike the N-series device’s primary display, the secondary display will not automatically enter a 

“sleep” mode when left idle. 

The secondary display is not intended for use with multimedia-intensive applications. Videos 

and other similar applications should be run on the primary display for the optimal user 

experience. 

The Secondary Display Adapter is intended for use with the N500 and N500w only. The N400 

does not support the addition of a second display. 

Using the Secondary Display Adapter will require that your N-series device is running firmware 

version 1.2.0 or newer. Be sure to check that you have updated to the latest firmware version 

before installing the Secondary Display Adapter. You can download the latest firmware build 

from the following URL, by selecting an N-series device from the “Product” dropdown:
