Paccar PX-9 Operator's Manual - page 27
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
PACCAR engines are designed to
operate at full throttle under momentary
conditions down to peak torque engine
speed. This is consistent with
recommended operating practices.
CAUTION
Operating
the
engine
beyond
the maximum engine speed can
cause severe engine damage.
Use proper operating techniques
for the vehicle to prevent engine
overspeed. The maximum engine
speed specification is listed in the
“General Engine Specifications”
on page 5-13. Failure to comply
may result in equipment or prop-
erty damage.
CAUTION
DO NOT idle the engine for ex-
cessively long periods. Long pe-
riods of idling, more than 10 min-
utes, can cause poor engine per-
formance
NOTE
For
applications
with
high
idle-time, to help reduce soot load-
ing in the aftertreatment system,
avoid long periods of idling. If idling
is required, increase idle-speed
using the cruise control function.

This engine may be equipped with a
variable geometry turbocharger (VGT)
with an exhaust brake feature. This
feature allows the variable geometry
turbocharger to act as an exhaust
brake by retarding the speed of the
engine to provide additional vehicle
braking power and extend the life of the
vehicle service brakes. The ON/OFF
