1) Column 2 indicates the rated continuous AC output current
2) Column (3) indicates the maximum size of external AC breaker based on the next higher
standard breaker size based on Column 2.
3) Columns 4 indicates conductor size based on guidelines in Table 4D2A in British Standard
BS 7671 (Reference Method B) for solid conductors and ambient temperature of 30°C /
86°f. following factors have been considered:
(a) Ampacity of 16A specified at Column 3
(b) 3-Core cable enclosed in conduit on a wall or in trunking etc.
(c) Stranded copper conductors with temperature rating of minimum 70˚C/158˚f
(d) Ambient temperature of 40°C / 104°f
(e) Effective Ampacity has been increased to 20A based on corrections for ambient
temperature of 40°C and stranded conductors.
8.5.4 Providing Backup Power Using transfer Switch
for this application, use a Transfer Switch that has Double Pole, Double Throw Contacts.
- feed utility power and output power from the inverter to the two inputs of the Transfer
relay.
- feed the output of the Transfer Switch to a Sub-Panel to feed AC loads requiring backup
power.

note: Recommendations given below are based on Protective Multiple Earthing (PME) or
TN-C-S Earthing System.
for safety, connect the metal chassis of the inverter to the Main Earthing Terminal of the
premises or to the other designated Ground (for example, in a vehicle, the metal frame /
chassis of the vehicle is normally designated as the Negative DC Ground). A Chassis Ground-
ing Terminal (19, fig 6.1c) has been provided for grounding the metal chassis of the inverter
to the appropriate Ground.
