Background
Suppression
Background suppression has improved significantly as compared to the
“DocuImage 620S Scanner” and the “Production Scanner”. Specifically, the
“Normal” selection will remove the background on the wider range of
background darkness levels. Documents with darker backgrounds or
darker colored stocks that previously required background suppression
settings of “Strong” or “Very Strong” may no longer require these settings.
When using background suppression while scanning color documents
(default setting is “Enabled” and “Normal” for all Original Types except
“Photograph”), some fine details may be lost. Changing from “Normal” to
“Mild” will likely prevent the loss of those details.
By default, “background suppression” is set to “off” for the “Photograph”
Original Types and “Normal” for all other Original Types. As such,
photographs scanned in “Photograph” or “Photograph and Text” Original
Types will generally yield electronic images a bit darker as compared to
photographs scanned in any of the other “Original Types”.
When scanning with originals that have content on both sides of the page
from the platen, “showthrough” may occur. “Showthrough” is information on
the other side of the original being scanned that “bleeds” through the paper
and becomes part of the scanned image. If showthrough occurs, place a
piece of black paper or cardboard on top of the original being scanned on
the platen. This will force most of the showthrough to get suppressed as
part of the background suppression function.
Originals containing a significant amount of background (dark colored
originals with a high degree of image content over the page or originals on
colored stock) that do not completely eliminate the background with the
“Normal” background suppression level typically result in a darker overall
image when scanned from the platen, as opposed to scanning through the
feeder.
When scanning with Automatic Background Suppression set to “off”, and
setting the “Optimize Image For” selection to either “Generic” or “Generic
Write White”, scans of blank pages will come out gray. To ensure the pages
are white, you must change the “Pictorial Rendering” (IQ tab, “More”
button) from Error Diffusion to Threshold.

SCSI scanner
connection
It is important to ensure the connectors on the SCSI interface cable that
connects the scanner to the PC are properly seated and the thumbscrews
holding the connector are tightened. If the screws on the connector are not
tightened, the connections, particularly on the scanner, may become loose
over time, resulting in one of the following fault codes: 62-125, 62-145.
8
System calibration
The scanner image quality may vary
slightly
for the first 20 - 30 minutes of
operation if the scanner has been turned off for an extended period of time.
If the scanner has been turned “off” for longer than 48 hours, it is
recommended that you calibrate the scanner immediately prior to scanning
a job for the first 20 - 30 minutes of operation after powering on.
