18 In the Setup Type window, select the type of installation for the software:
Typical—Installs the software and documentation.
Compact—Installs the software but not documentation.
Custom—Allows you to choose the components to install.
19 Follow the directions in the Select Program Folder window and click Next.
20 In the Desktop Icon Option window, click Yes.
21 In the next window, if the option to restart the computer appears, select it and
click Finish.
The PC Card drivers, along with the 3Com utilities and documentation, are now
installed on your notebook.
Older Softex Versions
If you are running a version of Softex below 2.8.2 and do not have networking
installed, use the following procedure:
1 Insert the PC Card in your notebook
2 The PCMCIA Card Not Configured window appears. Make sure the Manually
install the driver for this card option is activated, then click OK.
3 The Select OEM Driver window appears. From the list window, select Network
Adapter, then click OK.
4 When Windows asks if you want networking installed, select Yes.
5 The Network Setup wizard starts. Click the Wired to the network check box to
activate it, then click Next.
6 Click Select from list…, then select Network Adapter - Have Disk.
7 Insert the 3Com 11 Mbps Wireless LAN CD in your CD-ROM drive and enter
x:\softex
(where “x” is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive). Click OK.
8 Select OEM Option and highlight 3Com 3CRWE62092A Wireless LAN PC Card in
the list window. Click OK, then Next.
9 Select Network Protocol, and then select your network protocol options. More
than one protocol can be selected, but one of them must be TCP/IP Protocol.
Click Next.
10 The Network Services window appears. Click Next.
11 When Windows asks you to install selected components, click Next.
12 Windows displays the following prompt: “Setup needs to copy some Windows NT
files.” Remove the 3Com 11 Mbps Wireless LAN CD from your CD-ROM drive and
insert the Windows NT CD. Enter
x:\i386
(where “x” is the drive letter of your
CD-ROM drive), then click Continue.
13 In the next window, make sure Auto is displayed in both the IRQ Number and I/O
Base text boxes, then click Continue.
14 Windows displays the following query: “Do you wish to use DHCP?” Click Yes.
15 The files are downloaded to your hard drive. When the download is finished,
click Yes.
16 Windows prompts you to insert the 3Com 3CRWE62092A Wireless LAN PC Card
Driver Disk. Insert the 3Com 11 Mbps Wireless LAN CD in your CD-ROM drive,
then click OK.
