Speaker Configuration, Plus!
Start with completely independent setup selections for
each group of speakers in your system—”large” or “small”;
for surrounds and rears we’ve even included “large dipole”
or “small dipole” which automatically presets the listener
position settings for the reverberant soundfield provided by
dipole speakers. The crossover frequency determines the
low-frequency cut-off for all speakers set to “small” and the
high-frequency cut-off for the subwoofer. You can also choose
to have your subwoofer engaged, even if you have your front
speakers set to “large”. This is especially useful when
listening to 2-channel music with “large” fronts, where the
“super” setting will allow your subwoofer to reproduce all of the
glorious deep bass in your music recordings.
Advanced Bass Management Gives You Even
More Control Over Your System
Advanced Settings Setup in the AVM 20 offers users a number of
fine-tuning capabilities with Bass Management. You can set
the crossover points, in 5-Hz increments from 25 Hz to 160 Hz,
independently for each speaker group—front L/R, center, sur-
round L/R and rear L/R—to better optimize the low-frequency
cut-off for each speaker set to “small”. You can also independ-
ently set the high-frequency cut-off for the subwoofer. Unique
to the AVM 20, a Polarity switch and a 0 to 180° Phase Control
allow precise fine tuning of the deep bass response to provide
the most accurate and extended bass possible.
Bass Peak Level
The loudest part of a movie soundtrack is often LFE bass. The
Bass Peak Level Manager “looks ahead” at the bass signal and
reduces the risk of subwoofer/speaker overload by tailoring
bass output to match their capabilities.
Center-Channel Equalization
When you place a center-channel speaker on top of your TV
the front of the TV screen becomes an extension of the speaker
baffle, essentially “changing” its exterior shape. This can
reduce dialogue intelligibility. The AVM 20 addresses this
problem with its Center-Channel Equalization feature. Just
select your TV’s screen size and the AVM 20’s proprietary
algorithm modifies the center-channel’s frequency response
curve to provide the clearest sound possible.
Source Equalization
Sources do not all have the same frequency balance. Your
favorite FM stations may boost their high frequencies to
sound more prominent when you scan FM, especially in a car.
Or perhaps your TV’s output sounds somewhat dull making it
hard to understand. The AVM 20 has the perfect solution—
Source Equalization. This allows you to apply independent
low-frequency and high-frequency settings for each source.
And you can still use bass/treble controls to make “on-the-
fly” adjustments that may be required for any program.

Matching Volume Differences
Ever notice how some analog components (FM/AM, VCR, Tape,
etc.) play louder than others with the volume control at the same
setting? The AVM 20 lets you adjust for those differences easily.
Built-in VU meters provide a visual indicator of the level right
up to overload. Now all of your components can play at a similar
level, thereby minimizing those annoying level differences when
switching from one source to another.
