Do Not use the meˉ system on the following areas:
•
Around the eyes or near the eyebrows. Use on or around the eyes can cause eye injury.
•
Anywhere on the ears or head (excluding facial treatment - see page 15). Use in these areas has
not been tested and the effects are unknown.
•
On nipples, areolas, genitals and anus. Use in these areas has not been tested and the effects are
unknown.
•
On areas where you have applied any type of topical anesthetic. This may reduce your ability to
feel pain, which can result in skin injury with improper use of the system.
•
On moles, large veins, darker pigmented areas, scars and abnormal skin areas without consulting
your doctor. This can result in injury to the skin or a change in skin colour.
•
On warts, tattoos or permanent make-up. This can result in injury to the skin or a change in skin
colour.
Do Not use the meˉ system if you are taking the following medications:
•
Topical retinoids (Differin, Epiduo, Tazorac) / Tretinoin (Renova, Retin A) over the treatment area
within the last 2 months, which increase the skin’s sensitivity to ultraviolet light.
•
Isotretinoin (Accutane) within the last six months.
•
Any medication that causes sensitivity to the sun: antibiotics; antihistamines (Benadryl); cancer
chemotherapy drugs; cardiac drugs (Cordarone, Procardia, Quinaglute, Quinidex, Cardizem,
Dilacor and Tiazac); diuretics (Lasix, Hydrodiuril) or any others. Check the package insert of your
medicine to see if it is stated that it can cause photosensitivity or to avoid sun when taking this
medication.
•
If you are on painkillers, which reduce the skin’s sensitivity to heat (Naprosyn, Naprelan, Anaprox,
Aleve).
•
Herbs, food supplements, and vitamins known to cause sensitivity to the sun.
•
St. John’s Wort within the last two weeks.
•
If you are on gold therapy.
Notes:
• The meˉ system may be less effective in removing hair from women with polycystic ovary syndrome. This is due to
the high levels of masculinizing hormones that result in excessive hair growth. Contact HoMedics Customer Service
for more information (see page 21)
• This list is not exhaustive. If you are not sure whether you can use the system, we advise you to ask your doctor. If
you are taking any medication or have any other known medical conditions, we advise you to ask your doctor.
