MAINTENANCE AND ADJUSTMENT
A
Blade
Blade is sharp and can
cut you. Help avoid in-
jury before you check
blade: Stop engine. Let
engine cool. Wear gloves
or wrap blade with rag.
Check Blade for Damage.
• Remove blade:
- Lower edger until blade
touches ground as shown.
- Hold opposite end of blade
spindle with wrench.
- Remove nut by turning it
counterclockwise.
A. Nut
• Reverse or replace blade .
• Install blade on spindle:
- Check that raised edge of
inside washer is facing
outward.
- Put blade on spindle.
- Fasten it with washer and nut.
- Tighten nut to 39 N-m (4.0
kg-m).

Spark Plug
• Disconnect spark plug cable and
remove spark plug.
Do not clean spark plug
in a machine using
abrasives.
CAUTION
• Clean spark plug with a wire
brush.
• Inspect spark plug for:
- Cracked porcelain.
- Pitted or damaged electrodes.
- Other wear or damage.
• Check gap with a thickness
gauge.
• Set gap to 0.6-0.7 mm .
• Install and tighten spark plug to
15 N-m (1 .5kg-m).
• Connect spark plug cable.

Engine Oil
In order for the engine to
function properly, maintain the
engine oil at the proper level,
and change the oil. Not only do
dirt and metal particles collect
in the oil, but the oil itself loses
its lubricative quality if used too
long.
Engine Oil Level
• Stop engine. Put edger on level
ground.
• Adjust cutting depth lever so
engine is level.
• Clean area around dipstick.
• Remove dipstick. Wipe with
clean rag.
• Install dipstick - Do not tighten.
Let dipstick threads rest on top of
tube .
• Remove dipstick. Check oil
level. If the oil level is near
or below the “L” mark on the
dipstick, add SAE 10W-30 Engine
Oil to the engine and bring the
engine oil level to the “H” mark
on the dipstick.
