9. Door Latch Inspection

Thedoorlatchisnon-adjustablebutthegasketingbetween
theglassandfireboxshouldbeinspectedperiodicallytomake
surethereisagoodseal.Ifthegasketisfrayedordamaged,
replace with a new one.
10. Soot and Fly Ash: Formation & Need for Removal
in Exhaust Venting System.
• Frequency: Yearly or more frequently depending on
fueltypeorashbuild-up

Theproductsofcombustionwillcontainsmallparticlesoffly
ash.Theflyashwillcollectintheexhaustventingsystem
andrestricttheflowofthefluegases.
Atstart-upifthereisincompletecombustion,orifthereisa
shutdown or incorrect operation of the appliance it will lead
to some soot formation. This will collect in the exhaust vent-
ing system.
Theventingsystemmayneedtobecleanedatleastoncea
year or more often depending upon the quality of your fuel or
ifthereisalotofhorizontalpipesections.Ashwillbuildup
morequicklyinthehorizontalsections.
11. Preparing Firebox for Non-Burn Season
• Frequency: At the end of heating season
• By: Homeowner
a. Theappliancemustbeincompleteshutdown,completely
coolandtheexhaustbloweroff.
b. Removeallashfromthefireboxandvacuumthoroughly.
c. Paint all exposed steel, including cast-iron. Use the
Touch-Up paint supplied with the appliance or purchase
paint from your local dealer. You must use a high-tem-
peraturepaintmadespecificallyforheatingappliances.
7. Cleaning the Hopper
• Frequency:Monthlyorafterburning1tonoffuel,
(aprx50bags)orwhenchangingfueltypes
• By: Homeowner
a. BesurethewallcontrolscreensaysOFFandtheappliance
is allowed to cool.
b. Afterburningapproximately1tonoffuelyouwillneedto
cleanthehoppertopreventsawdustand/orfinesbuild-up.
c. Acombinationofsawdust/finesandpelletsontheauger
reducestheamountoffuelsupplytothefirepot.
d. This can result in nuisance shut downs and mis-starts
•. Emptythehopperofanyremainingpellets.
•. Vacuumthehopperandfeedtube.
8. Cleaning the Glass
• Frequency:Whenclearviewoffirepotbecomes
obscure

a. Be sure the wall control screen says OFF and the
appliance is allowed to cool.
b. Cleanglasswithanon-abrasivecommerciallyavailable
cleaner. Wipe down with dry towel.
NOTE
• This unit is required to be cleaned
frequently because soot creosote and
ash may accumulate.
