Front panel USB Interface
!
The RTB6211D has a pair of USB connectors on the front panel, adjacent to the display for each radio. Marked PROG,
these connectors are used for programming each radio with the KPG-141D configuration software. All radio
parameters, such as channel frequencies, spacing, power, modulation type etc are set with this software. Use of the
software is covered in the software help files. Please consult Raycom for further information.
!
The USB connector is a mini type B USB socket. Standard USB cables are readily available to connect these ports to a
computer. Internally, the RTB6211D uses FTDI FT232R chips to communicate with the radio. Drivers for these chips,
if not already installed on the host computer, are usually downloaded automatically by the operating system (normally
Microsoft Windows). If the drivers are not on the computer and an internet connection is not available, drivers can be
downloaded from the FTDI web site:

!
Make sure to choose the VCP (virtual com port) driver. The FTDI chips in Raycom RTB6211D base stations are
configured with a common serial number. This ensures that the host computer always allocates the same COM Port
number to the USB port, making programming easier. However, this does mean that it is not possible to have both USB
ports connected to the same host computer. If both are connected, only one will be recognised.
