spray tip selection guide
The spray tips needed for the PRO SERIES 1300 are dependant on the application, the paint viscosity and
the paint temperature. The following is a guide for selecting the right spray tip.
The tip number is a 6 digit number with sets of 3 numbers separated by a dash. The first number in the
second set of 3 indicates pattern width and the second and third numbers are orifice opening.
To determine what line width a tip will spray, double the first number and add 2. This will be the width of
line with the tip at 12 inches from the surface.
Hypothetical example: 286-319 Spray Tip
The 319 tip will spray an 8” line at 12” from the surface or a 4” line at 6” from the surface.
The 19 is .019 or 19 one thousandths of an inch.
Generally, use one gun to paint 2” to 12” wide lines and two guns to paint 12” to 24” lines.
In order to decrease line width, use a tip with a narrower pattern. To increase line width, use a tip with a
wider pattern, or use two guns.
Line width will vary with paint viscosity and paint temperature.
Check the mil thickness of the wet paint with a mil thickness gauge. Adjust the speed of the machine until

you get the desired mil thickness.
bead application
To apply beads increase the pressure in the bead tank by turning the Bead Tank Regulator knob at the
1.
top of the bead tank clockwise. The pressure in the bead tank will be indicated by the gauge at the top
of the tank.
Set the pressure at 20 PSI. Increasing the pressure increases the flow of beads to the bead gun.
2.
Bead flow is also controlled by the size of the orifice of the bead gun insert. See the Binks Model 30 Bead
3.
Gun information in the Service section of this manual for a list of nozzle inserts that are available. Flow will
also vary with the type of bead used.
On a 2-gun unit the bead guns are turned off and on with the button at the handle bars that controls the

paint guns.
The button has two stages. When the button is fully depressed both the paint and the bead guns are activated. If
the button is partially depressed only the bead gun will be activated. While painting, the button can be partially
released to stop painting and the beads will continue to flow to finish out the line that was paint.
