Maintenance
Proper servicing and adjustments are key to the long life
of any implement. With careful inspection and routine
maintenance, you can avoid costly downtime and repair.
Check all bolts and pins after using the unit for several
hours and on a regular basis thereafter to ensure they are
tight and secured. Replace worn, damaged, or illegible
safety labels by obtaining new labels from your Land
Pride Dealer.
!
DANGER
To avoid serious injury or death:
•
Always disconnect driveline from tractor PTO shaft beforeÂ
servicing underside of cutter. If tractor is started with PTOÂ
engaged, the cutter can cause bodily injury or death.
â¢
Always secure equipment with solid supports before workingÂ
under it. Never work under equipment supported by concreteÂ
blocks or hydraulics. Concrete blocks can break, hydraulicÂ
lines can burst, and/or hydraulic controls can be actuatedÂ
even when power to hydraulics is off.
!
WARNING
Do not alter implement or replace parts on the implement withÂ
other brands. Other brands may not fit properly or have theÂ
same quality. They can weaken the integrity and impair theÂ
safety, function, performance, and life of the implement.Â
Replace parts only with genuine Land Pride parts.
!
CAUTION
To avoid serious injury:
â¢
Buildup of debris around moving parts and gearboxes is a fireÂ
hazard. Keep rotating parts and gearboxes free from debris toÂ
avoid serious injury and property damage.
â¢
Improper oil level can cause bearing failure and be a fireÂ
hazard. Maintain proper gearbox oil level to avoid seriousÂ
Cutter Blade Maintenance
!
WARNING
To avoid serious injury or death:
â¢
Keep blade bolt access hole covered at all times except whenÂ
servicing cutter blades. Make sure driveline is disconnectedÂ
from the tractor before servicing cutter blades.Â
â¢
Do not operate cutter with blades that are out-of-balance,Â
bent, excessively worn, excessively nicked, or with bladeÂ
bolts that are excessively worn. Such blades can break looseÂ
from the cutter at high speeds causing serious injury or death.
â¢
Do not attempt to straighten a bent blade or weld on a blade.Â
Do not attempt to modify a blade such as hard surfacing, heatÂ
treating, cold treating, or by any other method. AlwaysÂ
replace blades with new Land Pride blades to assure safety.
Always inspect cutting blades before each use. MakeÂ
certain they are properly installed and are in good workingÂ
condition. Replace any blade that is damaged, worn, bent,Â
or excessively nicked. Small nicks can be ground out.
Remove  blades and sharpen or replace as follows:
1.
Place tractor gear selector in park and set brakes,Â
shut engine off, and remove ignition key.
2.
Disconnect main driveline from tractor PTO andÂ
secure cutter deck in the up position with solidÂ
supports before servicing underside of cutter.
3.
Inspect cutting blades. Make certain they areÂ
properly installed and are in good working condition.Â
Replace any blade that is damaged, worn, bent, orÂ
excessively nicked. Small nicks can be ground out.
Refer to Figure 5-1 on page 23:
4.
Remove access cover (#5).Â
5.
Rotate blade bolt (#1) until in alignment with accessÂ
hole (A).
6.
Blade bolt (#1) is keyed and will not turn freely.Â
Unscrew locknut (#4) to remove cutting blade (#6).Â
7.
Repeat steps 5 & 6 for the other blade.
8.
Both blades should be sharpened at the same angleÂ
as the original cutting edge and must be replaced orÂ
re-ground at the same time to maintain properÂ
balance. The following precautions should be takenÂ
when sharpening blades:
a. Do not remove more material than necessary.Â
b. Do not heat and pound out a cutting edge.Â
c. Do not grind blades to a razor edge. Leave a bluntÂ
cutting edge approximately 1/16" thick.
d. Always grind cutting edge so end of blade remainsÂ
square to cutting edge and not rounded.
e. Do not sharpen back side of blade.
f. Both blades should weigh the same with not moreÂ
than 1 1/2 oz. difference. Unbalanced blades willÂ
cause excessive vibration which can damageÂ
gearbox bearings and create structural cracks.
9.
Carefully check cutting edges of blades in relation toÂ
blade carrier rotation to ensure correct bladeÂ
placement. Blade rotation is counterclockwise withÂ
cutting edge leading. Airfoil (lift) must be orientedÂ
towards the top of the deck.
IMPORTANT:Â
Replace cutting blades in pairs withÂ
genuine Land Pride blades only. Replacing singleÂ
blades can result in an out-of-balance condition thatÂ
will contribute to premature bearing wear/breakageÂ
and/or structural cracks in gearbox and/or deck.
IMPORTANT:Â
Examine blade bolts (#1) and flatÂ
washers (#2) for excessive wear and replace if worn.
