T h e t w o vertical r o w s o f six p u s h b u t t o n s each operate t h e f u n c t i o n s described o n their adja
cent display w i n d o w s . T h e arrows w h e n l i t , p o i n t i n g t o the displays, w i l l indicate w h i c h displays are
f u n c t i o n i n g . The u p p e r f o u r p u s h b u t t o n s o n the l e f t are oscilloscope f u n c t i o n selectors. They are
interdependent, and depressing a n y one o f the f o u r w i l l release any other one o f the f o u r w h i c h was
previously depressed.
A similar s t r u c t u r e exists w i t h the three m u t i n g p u s h b u t t o n s o n the t o p right side. T h e remain
ing five p u s h b u t t o n s are individually independent o f any o t h e r , and w h e n depressed w i l l remain so
u n t i l individually released b y depressing Them again.
T h e f o l l o w i n g descriptions cover p u s h b u t t o n f u n c t i o n s . A m o r e detailed analysis o f the oscillo
scope's traces are e x p l o r e d later.
D I S P L A Y
T h e upper p u s h b u t t o n . Display:Panoramic, displays all stations that are t r a n s m i t t i n g
1 M H z above and b e l o w the tuned f r e q u e n c y . The vertical pips o f the scope's trace
represent stations w h i c h are broadcasting a signal above the a m b i e n t interstation noise level, w h i c h
is the base line. When tuned t o a particular f r e q u e n c y , t h e station y o u are listening to w i l l be cen
tered o n the scope's graticule.

The second p u s h b u t t o n o n t h e left, Display .-Tuning is used t o p r o p e r l y tune the set.
F o r proper t u n i n g , the trace should be adjusted f o r the upper center o f its p a t h .

The t h i r d p u s h b u t t o n , Display:Tuner Vector, displays the audio c o m p o n e n t s o n an
X - Y basis. T h i s vector e x h i b i t s t h e left and right stereo channels along a perpendic
ular axis. It is used in checking t h e separation and phase characteristics o f stereo p r o g r a m material.
T h e w i d e r the angle, the greater t h e separation. The higher the trace, the stronger the signal. A
vertical line indicates n o separation (as a centrally positioned announcer, o r m o n o p h o n i c trans
mission).

The f o u r t h p u s h b u t t o n . Display:Ext. Vector, displays separation and phase charac
teristics o f a n y stereo or four-channel p r o g r a m m i n g . T o be f u n c t i o n a l , proper c o n
nections have t o be made t o t h e External V e c t o r I n p u t section in the back panel. Stereo program
material is displayed identically t o D i s p l a y : T u n e r V e c t o r . Four-channel program material is dis
played o n 4-legs o f an " X " shaped trace, indicating the corners o f f r o n t , rear, left, r i g h t . T h e separa
t i o n , phase, and a m p l i t u d e o f each leg o f quad p r o g r a m m i n g can be observed.
S E P A R A T I O N
The f i f t h p u s h b u t t o n , Separation: Maximum-Hi Blend, c o n t r o l s the separation o f the
high frequencies in stereo broadcasting. I t is used t o eliminate some noise under
d i f f i c u l t listening c o n d i t i o n s . O r d i n a r i l y have it set to M a x i m u m f o r best spatial and directional
d e f i n i t i o n o f listening material.
