When encountering excessive interference o r background noise, switch the Separation t o H i
Blend. T h i s p o s i t i o n blends the high frequencies o f the left a n d right channels together providing a
good c o m p r o m i s e , between moderate separation a n d moderate suppression, o f out-of-phase noise
and d i s t o r t i o n . T h i s p e r m i t s y o u t o m a i n t a i n f u l l frequency response, d i f f e r i n g f r o m conventional
noise filters w h i c h eliminate noise b y reducing high frequency response. N o t e : If the H i Blend
position does n o t satisfactorily reduce stereo noise, s w i t c h i n g the M o d e display f u n c t i o n f r o m A u t o
matic t o M o n o ( f o u r t h p u s h b u t t o n o n right) c o m p l e t e l y eliminates all stereo noise, b u t the program
w i l l be received m o n o p h o n i c a l l y .
The b o t t o m p u s h b u t t o n o n the left, Dolby.Off-On, interposes o r removes a D o l b y
T y p e B decoder in the o u t p u t audio lines,-affording y o u the benefits o f the D o l b y
noise reduction system w h e n t h e station is t r a n s m i t t i n g D o l b y .
The u p p e r three p u s h b u t t o n s o n the right are f o r m u t i n g f u n c t i o n s . T h e y are interrelated and
depressing a n y o n e cancels o u t the o t h e r t w o . T h e m u t i n g level is set b y an a d j u s t m e n t on the back
jack panel o f t h e set (refer t o Back Panel M u t i n g I n s t r u c t i o n s ) .

The second p u s h b u t t o n d o w n . Muting:Inter-Station, mutes all undesired noise
(beneath the preset m u t i n g level) w h i l e t u n i n g between stations.
The t h i r d p u s h b u t t o n . Muting:Inter-Stereo. w i l l m u t e n o t o n l y inter-station noise
b u t also m o n o p h o n i c broadcasts, a l l o w i n g y o u t o receive o n l y stereo broadcasts.
There is a n o t h e r m u t i n g system designed i n t o the t u n e r w h i c h is non-adjustable. (The M u t i n g
Level adjustment is o n the Back Jack Panel). It has t o d o w i t h off-center tuning noise. T o best
understand it, consider the D i s p l a y : T u n i n g p a t t e r n . When a station is p r o p e r l y tuned the trace is o n
t h e center line. A s the trace approaches and goes d o w n t h e sides o f the t u n i n g p a t t e r n (off center
frequency) it is a u t o m a t i c a l l y m u t e d . T h i s m u t i n g c i r c u i t operates w h e n either Inter-Station o r
Inter-Stereo m u t i n g is i n c o r p o r a t e d . It is by-passed w h e n M u t i n g : O f f is engaged.
The f o u r t h p u s h b u t t o n o n the right. Mode: Automatic-Mono, in the a u t o m a t i c posi
t i o n , a u t o m a t i c a l l y senses w h e t h e r the received signal is stereo or m o n o , and chan
nels the signal t h r o u g h the proper c i r c u i t r y . Consequently it is usually kept in the A u t o m a t i c posi
t i o n . The Stereo Pilot w i l l l i g h t w h e n a stereo p r o g r a m is being received. When a m o n o program is
being received t h e set is designed to bypass the m u l t i p l e x decoding c i r c u i t r y , thus eliminating any
possible stereo noise. W i t h t h e Mode p u s h b u t t o n depressed t o M o n o , it w i l l receive stereo programs
m o n o p h o n i c a l l y . T h i s is useful in e l i m i n a t i n g all stereo noises w h e n stereo p r o g r a m m i n g is being

Depressing the t o p p u s h b u t t o n , Muting.Off, cancels o u t all m u t i n g f u n c t i o n s . In this
mode all inter-station noise is heard. A l t h o u g h most people f i n d inter-station noise
