1. Introduction
UC Digital Gateway is a system that allows Nortel digital telephone sets originally designed for the Norstar and BCM hardware platforms to be
x
used with E-MetroTel’s UC Servers.
x
The main function of the UC Digital Gateway is to handle all necessary protocol translation tasks to allow Nortel digital phones to be used with a
x
UC Server.
x
The UC Digital Gateway product is distributed in two ways:
x
Solid State Drive (SSD) with UC software that must be installed in a customer's BCM50 system
x
BCM50 with the Solid State Drive (SSD) with UC software installed and a UC product license enabled
x
x
This quick start guide describes steps to install the UC Digital Gateway solid state drive (SSD) in a BCM50 system and to configure the hardware
x
and software for communication with your UC Server.
x
2. Installation of the Solid State Drive in a BCM system
If you purchased the UC Digital Gateway as a complete system (a BCM50 system with UC software and a UC product license), you should

proceed to the section
.
Configuration of UCx Digital Gateway
The UC x Digital Gateway’s software is distributed on a Solid State Drive (SSD) that must be installed in the main unit of the BCM50 telephone
system.
2.1. Opening the BCM Main Unit
Before you perform this procedure, attach a grounding strap connected to a grounded metal surface to your wrist.
Disconnect all cables (including the power cable) from the BCM unit.
Turn the BCM50 case over to gain access to screws at the bottom of the unit.
Locate three screw holes marked with A and remove the screws.
Turn the case back over to its upright position. Collect and save the three screws.
While facing the BCM front side (the one with connectors), hold the bottom of the case and press on the top of the case with your
thumbs. The top of the case will slide to the back by about ¼” as shown in the picture below. After that, lift the top of the case from the
BCM unit.
