4. Add unleaded gasoline to the fuel tank, until the
level is just inside the mesh filter basket.
Important: This space in the tank allows
gasoline to expand. Do not fill the fuel tank
completely full.
5. Install the fuel tank cap securely.
6. Wipe up any gasoline that may have spilled.
Starting and Stopping the
Engine
Starting the Engine
1. Ensure that the traction control lever is in neutral
and that the cutting blade control lever is off.
2. Move the engine switch to the On position and turn
on the fuel valve.
3. Move the choke lever to the left if you are starting
a cold engine.
4. Move the throttle lever midway between slow
(turtle) and fast (rabbit) positions.
Note: A warm or hot engine may not require
choking.
5. Pull the recoil handle sharply to start the engine.
6. After the engine starts, gradually move the choke to
the right. If the engine stalls or hesitates, move the
choke left again until the engine warms up.
7. Move the throttle lever to desired setting.
Stopping the Engine
1. Turn the engine switch and fuel valve off.
2. Wait for all moving parts to stop before proceeding.
Operating the Machine
1. If seeding, set the seeding rate gauge to the desired
rate.
2. Move the depth control lever to the desired setting.
3. Ensure that the traction control lever is in neutral.
4. Start the engine.
5. Push down on the handle to raise the front wheels
off of the ground.
6. Pull the cutting blade control lever to the handle
and slowly lower the front wheels to the ground,
allowing the blades to gradually work into the grass
and soil.
7. If seeding, push the seeder control lever forward.
8. Move the traction control to the desired speed and
direction.
9. When finished, place the traction control lever
in neutral, pull the seeder control lever rearward,
release the cutting blade control lever, stop the
engine, and raise the cutting blades to the highest
setting.
Operating Tips
Power Seeding
When over seeding, set the cutting blades to be 1/8 to
1/4 inch (3 to 6 mm) into the earth (below the zero
position). For basic seeding, only make one pass. If
there are a few bad areas, such as fungus damage or dog
urine, seed the entire property as normal, but stop after
each bad spot, back up past it again, and then resume
over it, effectively seeding it with triple the amount of
seed.
Important: Do not put down more seed than
recommended by the seed company. Over seeding
can cause the grass to be too thick and cause it to
be susceptible to fungus.
Note: The machine will seed at the same rate going
both forward and rearward.
Note: If there is excessive thatch, it may be necessary
to remove the thatch prior to seeding.
Dethatching
