IMPACT WRENCHES
TOOL DOES NOT RUN OR RUNS
SLOWLY, AND/OR AIR FLOWS
ONLY SLIGHTLY FROM EXHAUST.
Thisconditionisprobablycaused
byinsufficientairpressure,
contaminantsblockingtheairflow
oroperationofmotorparts,or
apowerregulatorwhichhas
vibratedtoaclosedposition.
YOU SHOULD:Checktheair
supplyforsufficientpressure.
Checktheairinletstrainerfor
blockage.Pouragenerousamount
ofairtooloilintoairinlet.
Operatetoolinshortbursts,in
bothforwardandreverse
directions.Repeatifnecessary.
Iftoolperformancedoesnot
improve,thetoolshouldbe
servicedbyanauthorizedservice
center.
TOOL WILL NOT RUN, EXHAUST
AIR FLOWS FREELY.Thiscondition
isprobablycausedbyoneormore
rotorvanesstuckonaccumulated
sludgeorvarnish;motorrusted.
YOU SHOULD:Pouragenerous
amountofairtooloilintoair
inlet.Operatetoolinshortbursts
inbothforwardandreverse
directions.Lightlytapthemotor
housingwithaplasticmallet.
Detachtheairsupply.Trytofree
themotorbyturningthedrive
shaftmanually,ifpossible.Ifthe
toolremainsjammed,itshouldbe
servicedbyanauthorizedservice
center.
SOCKETS WILL NOT STAY ON.This
conditionisprobablycausedbya
wornsocketretainerringorasoft
backupo-ring
YOU SHOULD:Wearsafety
goggles.Detachtheairsupply.
Usingexternalretainingring
pliers,removetheoldretaining
ring.Whileholdingthesquare
drivewithanappropriatewrench,
useasmallscrewdrivertopryold
retainerringoutofitsgroove.
Alwaysprytheringawayfrom
yourbody,becauseitcanbe
propelledoutwardathigh
velocity.Replacethebackup
o-ringandretainerringwith
correctnewparts(seebreakdown).
Placetheretainingringonatable
andpressthetoolanvilintothe
ringwitharockingmotion.Snap
theringintothegroovebyhand.
PREMATURE ANVIL WEAR.Thisis
probablycausedbyusingchromed
sockets,whicharenotdesigned
forusewithimpacttools,orworn
sockets.
YOU SHOULD:Stopusingchrome
sockets.Chromesocketshavea
hardexteriorsurfaceandasoft
core,whichleadstoawarpedbut
veryharddriveholewhenused
withimpacttools.Chromesockets
willwearwrenchanvilsquickly
andpresentadangerofsplitting
orbreakagewhichcanleadto
injuryordeath.
TOOL SLOWLY LOSES POWER BUT
RUNS AT FULL SPEED WHEN NOT
UNDER LOAD.Thisconditionis
probablycausedbywornclutch
parts,inadequatelubrication,or
wornengagingcam.
YOU SHOULD:
FOR OIL LUBED WRENCHES:
Checkforpresenceofclutchoil
(whereoilisspecifiedforthe
clutch)andremoveoilfillplug.
Tilttodrainalloftheoilfrom
theclutchcase.Refillthecase
withNAPAairtooloilor
thatrecommendedbythe
manufacturerinthespecified
amount.Alsocheckforexcess
clutchoil.Clutchcasesonlyneed
tobefilled50%,andoverfilling
cancausedragonhighspeed
clutchparts.Atypical1/2"Driveoil
lubedwrenchonlyrequires1/2oz.
ofclutchoil.FOR GREASE LUBED
WRENCHES: Checkforexcess
greasebyrotatingdriveshaftby
hand.Itshouldrotatefreely,and
excessgreaseisusuallyexpelled
automatically.
TOOL WILL NOT SHUT OFF.This
conditionisprobablycausedbya
brokenormalignedthrottlevalve
O-ring,orabentorjammed
throttlevalvestem.
YOU SHOULD:Removethethrottle
assemblyandinstallanewo-ring.
Lubricatetheassemblywithair
tooloilandoperatethetrigger
briskly.Ifoperationcannotbe
restored,thetoolshouldbe
servicedatanauthorizedservice
center.
AIR RATCHETS
MOTOR RUNS. SPINDLE DOESN’T
TURN, OR TURNS ERRATICALLY.
Thisconditionisprobablycaused
bywornteethontheratchetor
pawl,abrokenorweakpawl
pressurespring,orweakdrag
springswhichfailtoholdthe
spindlewhilethepawladvances.
YOU SHOULD: Havereplacement
partsinstalledbyanauthorized
servicecenter.
TOOL DOESN’T RUN, RATCHET
HEAD INDEXES CRISPLY BY HAND.
Thisconditionisprobablycaused
bytheaccumulationofdirtor
sludgeinmotorparts.
YOU SHOULD:Pouragenerous
amountofairtooloilintotheair
inlet.Operatethethrottleinshort
bursts.Withthetoolengagedon
abolt,alternatelytightenand
loosentheboltbyhand.Ifthe
toolremainsjammed,itshouldbe
servicedatanauthorizedservice
center.
AIR DRILLS
TOOL WILL NOT RUN, RUNS
SLOWLY, AIR FLOWS SLIGHTLY
FROM EXHAUST, SPINDLE TURNS
FREELY.Thisconditionisprobably
causedbyablockedairpassageor
jammedmotorparts.
YOU SHOULD:Checktheairinlet
