CONNECTING THE XP1000.5
IMPORTANT NOTICE!
Disconnect the positive battery terminal
(+12V) or remove the main fuse near the car
battery before any wiring work!
Please note that the power supply of the car
must remain disconnected until the entire
wiring installation is completed.
Power Cables
The minimum recommended power cable
cross-section (average cable length: 5 m) of
main power supply cable for the full rated out-
put power of the XP1000.5 is 20 mm
2
for both
+12V and chassis ground (GND) connection.
Using main power cables with smaller cross-
sections will result in lower output power -
especially with 2 Ohm subwoofer load - and
may cause unnecessary over-heating of the
amplifier circuitry, distortion at high volume
levels or even trigger the thermal protection
circuitry to shut-off the amplifier.
■
Basic Wiring Installation and Cable
Routing Tips!
Use rubber grommets when running cables
through any metal or sharp plastic to prevent
accidental shorting or shearing. Make sure
the cables do not interfere with normal ope-
ration of the vehicle.
■
When connecting cables/wires to the
direct connecting screw terminals (power
and speaker connections), make sure no fine
litz stranding is sticking out of the terminal
holes, which could cause shorting to the
amplifier chassis or neighbouring terminals.
■
Generally, balanced music signal connec-
tions - as used from the XP1000.5 Symmetry
Converter to the power amplifier - are almost
immune to all sorts of unwanted noise origi-
nating in interference from in-car electronics
or extensive cable lenghts. Therefore if you
take the same care with the balanced Mini-
DIN interconnects as you would use for stan-
dard unbalanced signal cable (RCA cable)
routing, you will be sure to benefit from a per-
fectly noise-free signal transmission.
Carefully run the two 5 m Mini-DIN INTER-
CONNECTS from the XP1000.5 to the Symmetry
Converter. To be on the safe side, we recom-
mend that the balanced Mini-DIN inter-
connects should be routed away from the
power cables and any potential sources of
electrical interference e.g. electronic vehicle
management systems (engine computers,
relays etc.) fuel pumps, wiring harnesses etc.!
Mount the SYMMETRY CONVERTER under the
dashboard near the head-unit (using the 4 self-
tapping screws supplied) in such a way that no
additional RCA extensions will be required bet-
ween the 3 pairs of head-unit pre-outs and the
supplied 5/6-Channel Adaptor Cable (approx.
length 50 cm) for the Symmetry Converter. If
you prefer mounting the Symmetry Converter
unit without drilling and screws, you may also
use a cloth fastening tape.
Connect the 6 RCA output channels and the
REMOTE lead from your head-unit by way of
the 5/6-CHANNEL ADAPTOR CABLE to the
input of the Symmetry Converter.
PLEASE NOTE: If your head-unit only
features 5 RCA output channels - i.e. only
one subwoofer channel - you just use a
Y-adaptor (1M to 2F).
IMPORTANT! All RCA input signals from the
head-unit should be unfiltered, i.e. fullrange
signals! Any pre-filtered signal will interfere
with the advanced filtering electronics of the
XP1000.5. For example, lowpass subwoofer
pre-out signals from a head-unit will cause a
downward shift of the set LOWPASS (F
LP
) on
the XP1000.5! This will always be the case
even if the lowpass frequency of the head-unit
is set higher than the highest possible (F
LP
)
setting of the XP1000.5.
