Lower unit
Removing the lower unit
• Make sure to disconnect the battery
cables from the battery and the clip from
the engine shut-off switch.
• When removing the lower unit with the
power unit installed, make sure to sus-
pend the outboard motor. If the outboard
motor is not suspended it can fall sud-
denly and result in severe injury.
• Do not hold the propeller with your
hands when loosening or tightening it.

Drain the gear oil.
2.
Remove the cotter pin.
3.
Set the gear shift to the N position, and
place a block of wood between the anti-
cavitation plate and propeller to keep the
propeller from turning, and then remove
the propeller nut and propeller.
4.
Mark a the trim tab a at the area
shown, and then remove it.
5.
Remove the bolts b and c, and then
remove it.
TIP:
When disassembling the lower unit, measure
the backlash before disassembly. See “Mea-
