Switch Description
The xStack DES-6500 layer 3 modular chassis Ethernet switch is a member of the D-Link xStack family. Ranging from
10/100Mbps edge switches to core gigabit switches, the xStack switch family has been future-proof designed to provide a
stacking architecture with fault tolerance, flexibility, port density, robust security and maximum throughput with a user-
friendly management interface for the networking professional.
The xStack DES-6500 chassis switch is a modular, chassis-based Ethernet backbone switch designed for adaptability and
scalability. This switch provides a management platform with a backplane switch capacity of 160 Gbps. The chassis
contains slots for the DES-6502 CPU management module and up to eight modules that can provide up to one hundred and
ninety-two 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet ports or up to ninety-six 1000 Mbps Gigabit Ethernet ports. These modules can be
hot-swapped, and the DES-6500 chassis allows the installation of a redundant power supply, for maximum flexibility and
reliability. The DES-6511 redundant power supplies operate in a current-sharing mode with automatic fail-over to ensure
constant operation of the Switch.
