5. Tightenthescrewonthecableplate,whilstthethrottleca-
bleisinthisposition.
Servicing the air filter
Cleantheairfilterevery25hours.Replaceiteveryseason.(See
enginemanualforfurtherinformation).
Blade inspection
The frequency of blade inspection depends on the working
conditions.
1. Makesurethattheengineisnotrunningandthehighwire
isdisconnectedfromthesparkplug.
2. Drainpetrolfromthefueltank.
3. Tipmoweronitsrightside.Avoidrotatingthebladewhen
themoweristippedbecausestartingproblemsmayresult.
4. Carefullyexaminetheblade:
a) If the cutting edge has become rounded it must be
sharpened.
b)Checkwheretheflatandcurvedpartsmeetand,ifthere
areanycracksorsignsofwearreplacethebladeimmedi-
ately.
ATTENTION: A worn or cracked blade can easily break dur-
ing use or pieces may break off, resulting in serious injury to
yourself or a bystander.
Sharpening or replacing the cutter blade
1. Turntheengineoffanddisconnectthehightensionwire
fromthesparkplug.
2. Drainfuelfromthefueltank.
3. Tipmoweronitsrightside.Avoidrotatingthebladewhen
themoweristippedupbecausestartingproblemsmayre-
sult.
4. Holdthebladefirmlywithaglovedhandand,usingaspan-
ner,unscrewtheboltandwasher(fig.10).
5. Removethebladeinordertosharpenorreplaceit.
6. Usingaflatfile,sharpenthetopsideofblade,maintaining
theoriginalcuttingangle.Thebladewillremainbalancedif
thesameamountofmaterialisremovedfrombothcutting
edges.
7. Checkthebalanceofthebladebyusingabladebalancer.
An unbalanced blade will lean on its heavier side. If the
bladeisnotbalancedfilemoremetaloffthecuttingedgeof
theheavysideandcheckthebalanceagain.
8. Installasharp,balancedblade,followingtheaboveproce-
dureinreversesequence(seepoints4and5).
9. Tightenthebladeboltto5,5Kgm.
NOTE: A blade balancer may be purchased at any good
hardware shop.
ATTENTION: In order to obtain best possible cutting results,
we recommend that you replace the blade annually in addi-
tion to sharpening it whenever necessary.
Cleaning the mower deck
Toassureoptimumperformance,keeptheundersideofthe
mowerdeckandthegrassdischargeareaclean.
1 Checkthattheenginehasstoppedandthehightension
wireisdisconnectedfromthesparkplug.
2. Drainthefueltank.
3. Tipthemoweronitsrightside.Avoidrotatingtheblade
whenthemoweristippedupasstartingproblemsmayre-
sult.
4. Removedirtandgrassclippingsfromtheundersideofthe
deck.Scrapeawayanyremainingdirtwithahandtool,be-
ingcarefulnottoinjureyourselfwiththebladeorsharp
edges.
5. Whencompleted,returnthemowertoitsuprightposition.
Traction cable adjustment
Afterthefirsthoursofuseitispossiblethatthetractionhan-
dlecableloosensanditbecomesdifficulttouse.
Ifthishappens,adjustthecableregulator(fig.11).
Theadjustmentiscorrectwhenthetractiongoesintoaction
withadistanceof30mmbetweenthetractionhandleandthe
handlebar(fig.12).
Toadjustthetractioncable,turntheregister.
Preparing mower for storage (more than a month).
1.Drainfuelfromthetank.
2.Startengineandletitrununtilitstops,duetolackoffuel.
ATTENTION: All petrol must be expended to prevent gum-
like varnish deposits from forming in the carburetor, fuel
line and fuel tank. Such deposits, if allowed to form, will
cause starting problems and poor engine performance.
3. Remove the high tension wire from the spark plug and
cleanthesurroundingareasothatdirtcannotpenetrate
thecylinderwhenthesparkplugisremoved.Removethe
sparkplugandpouraspoonfulof2-cycleoilintothecylin-
derchamber.Pulltherecoilstarterhandleslowlytodistrib-
uteoilontheinsideofthecylinder.Theninstallthespark
plugandtighten,usingaspanner.Donotinstallthehigh
tensionwireonthesparkplug.
4. Cleanthecylinderheadcoolerfins,externalengineparts
andmowerdeck.
5. Checkandtightenallscrews,boltsandnuts.Ifanyparts
aredamaged,repairorreplacethem.
6. Inspectthegrassbag.Replaceitifdamagedorworn.
7. Checktheconditionofthebladeandbladebolt;referto
“Bladeinspection”.
8. Cleantheairfilter(seeenginemanufacturer’smanual).
9. Touch-upallchippedpaintsurfaces.
10.Storethemowerinaclean,dryplace.Thehandlesmaybe
folded to save space. Cover the mower to protect it and
keepitclean,readyfornextseason.
NOTE: Before using the mower again, check that the handles
are well installed and all knobs are tightened.
