Using the Troubleshooting Procedures
1.
Each Step in a Troubleshooting Procedure instructs you to perform a certain
action or procedure. The steps are to be followed sequentially until the problem is
fixed or resolved.

The Actions and Questions box contains additional information and/or
additional procedures you must follow to isolate the problem.

When a procedure instructs you to test a component using service diagnostics,
see the "Service Diagnostics Menu Map" on page 3-9 for the detailed steps and
functions for testing parts of the printer.

The action is followed by a question. If your response to the question is “Yes”,
then follow the instructions for a “Yes” reply. If your response to the question is
“No”, then follow the instructions for a “No” reply.

Troubleshooting Procedures may ask you to take voltage readings or test for
continuity at certain test points within the printer. For detailed diagrams, refer to
Chapter 10, "Wiring Diagrams" on page 10-1 for complete information on test
point locations and signal names.

Troubleshooting Procedures often ask you to replace a printer component,
Chapter 8, "Service Parts Disassembly" on page 8-1 provides detailed steps for
removing and replacing all major parts of the printer. Chapter 9, "Parts Lists" on
page 9-1 details the location, quantity and part number for all spared printer
parts.
Step 4: Correct the Problem
1.
Use the Parts List to locate a part number.
2.
Use the Removal and Replacement Procedures to replace the part.
Step 5: Final Checkout
1.
Test the printer to be sure you have corrected the initial problem and there are no
additional problems present.
