Before You Begin
2.1.
Before you begin, make sure the site where you intend to set
up and use your storage system has the following:
• Standard AC supply power from an independent source or
a rack power distribution unit with a UPS.
• Host computer with a standard Fibre Channel HBA (host
bus adapter) with the latest BIOS and drivers. Follow the
instructions provided with your host bus adapter, and install
the HBA and its driver software, if necessary.
For Microsoft Windows Servers - Insert the Software and
Manuals Disc, click the Pseudo LUN Driver (INF) button and
following the on-screen installation instructions.
Unpacking the Storage System
2.2.
The Accessory Box contains the AC power cord(s), the Software
and Manuals Disc, anti-tamper lock key, host interface cables,
expansion cables, RS232 cables, and the rails-hardware parts
for rack mounting.
Position the shipping packaging within close proximity

of the site where you intend to install the storage system.
Inspect the packaging for crushes, cuts, water damage,

or any other evidence of mishandling during transit.
If any damage appears to be present, it is suggested to
take photographs before opening any boxes. You may

wish to contact the shipping company if there is
apparent damage.
Open the carton top, and remove the accessory kit box.

Lift the top foam component of the packaging from

the enclosure.
Remove the protective plastic wrapping and inspect for

obvious damage.
Lift the enclosure from the carton and place it on a

stable work surface. It is advisable to minimize the
weight by removing the Power Cooling Modules
(PCM) and the top row of Disk Drives, before lifting
the enclosure from the carton.
iMPoRtant note:
Refer to section 2.3 “Removing the
PCMs and Disk Drives” for the proper removal procedures.
Once you have the enclosure on a stable work surface,

remove the remaining Disk Drives, RAID Controllers or
Disk I/O Modules in preparation for rack installation.

Remove the PCMs.
1.
Grasp the latch and the side of the PCM handle
between your thumb and forefinger, then squeeze
together and open the handle to eject the PCM.
Then grip the handle and withdraw the PCM from the
enclosure bay. Repeat for the remaining PCMs.
Remove the Disk Drives.
2.
Insert the lock key provided into the cutout in the Drive
Carrier handle and into its socket. Rotate the key
counter-clockwise until the “red” indicator is not visible.
Release the Drive Carrier module handle by pressing
the latch in the handle with your finger and rotating
the handle outward and towards the right. Withdraw
the Drive Carrier from the drive slot. Repeat for the
remaining drives.
