Output of DIGITAL1 (when MAIN is copied to REC):
This isn’t really a setting on to its own, but is meant to indicate that MAIN digital signal processing and
DIGITAL1 output are the same – ‘b. 2-ch Anlg-DSP’ and ‘c. DIG.1 when -MAIN->REC’ are linked and change
together. It also shows that the digital output is 24-bit, which will still work if connected to 16- or 20-bit
equipment with S/PDIF input, although the least significant bits (including dithering) will not be used.
Output of DIGITAL2:
Set it as a fixed pass-through of any digital Source (DVD, SAT, etc.), or as a parallel output of DIGITAL1.
When DIGITAL1 or DIGITAL2 are in pass-through mode, their outputs transmit data the way it comes in, so if
it’s Dolby Digital or DTS encoded, it stays that way and can be linked to other digital equipment.
Balanced Output:
If the Balanced CENTER2 and SUB2 outputs are not in use for a second Center channel or Subwoofer in
MAIN, they can be used as Balanced ZONE2 L/R outputs (see section 4.2.5).
Example: Set ZONE2 to use Balanced outputs.
• Enter the Setup (section 7.1). Go to ‘3. AUDIO-OUT FORMAT’ and press SELECT.
• Press the
' button until you reach “c. BAL OUT: Ctr2 / Sub2”.
• Use the
"# buttons to change to ‘Zone2 L/R’.
• Press BACK to leave the submenu and return to the main menu.
7.4.4 SPEAKER CONFIGURATION
The Speaker Configuration Setup allows you to enter information about how many speakers you have in your
system, and their relative size and type. Here you will also set up the bass management. Entering information
about the size of your speakers will enable the AVM 20 to control bass information so it is not lost or distorted
by smaller speakers that are unable to reproduce large amounts of bass.
Small or Large:
Most speakers should be set to ‘Small’ and be used with a subwoofer, unless they use large drivers that can
handle bass and LFE. Even then physically large speakers may still need a subwoofer for bass frequencies,
particularly the bass of the ‘.1’ LFE channel. All THX certified speakers are designed to be set to ‘Small’.
Dipoles:
If using Dipole Surround and/or Dipole Rear speakers, no delay is required since sound produced by dipoles
is already in the reverberant domain acoustically. When Dipoles are selected for L/R SURROUNDS and/or
L/R REARS, their distance will equal the greatest distance in menu 5. LISTENER POSITION (see section 7.4.5).
