The photos on this page show more de-
tail. One interesting thing about this con-
struction technique is if you don’t glue the
leg to top plate tenons you can take the
whole assembly apart if you ever need to
just by removing the screws.
Look closely at the large photo. Again
the top plate is removed so you can see
the details better. The frame will remain
stationary. The skirt, table top, leg and
torsion box fillers (red arrow) will all move
together as the table top plates are re-
tracted to gain access to the stored but-
terfly leaf.
This photo was taken at final assembly
time. The clamp holds
the two top plates
firmly together in the
center of the table.
The shims hold the
outer-most torsion box
filler just a smooth
slide clear of the in-
side of the frame.
The small photo
shows how the inside
of the leg is held 5mm
short of touching the
outside of the outer-
most cross member.
This, too, is important
to accommodate the
seasonal movement of
the top.
