6.6.2 Selection of the motor cable
The correct selection and installation of the motor cable is very important for high motor
power:
• Lower load of the motor bearings through bearing currents.
• Better EMC characteristics.
• Lower symmetrical operating capacities.
• Less losses through equalizing currents.
• Due to the high currents, shielded motor cables can be connected in parallel be-
tween the drive converter and the motor.
• All three phases must passing through each line.
• The required cross-section is described in chapter „Technical Data“.
• All motor cables should have the same length in order to keep an asymmetry as
small as possible.
• The shield must always be placed over a large surface on both sides (mounting
plate and motor housing).

Symmetrically shielded motor cables are recommended at high
motor power.
• For example 2YSLCY-JB.
• The protective earth conductor is tripartite and uniformly
arranged between the phase lines.
• Compliance with the requirements according to EN 61439-1.

Certain cables also allow the shield to be used as protective earth
conductor.
•
Observe the cable manufacturer's specifications!
• The installation of an additional PE conductor is required if the
shield does not meet the requirements of EN 61439-1A.
• Compliance with the requirements according to EN 61439-1.

A shielded cable without protective earth conductor can be used
depending on the local regulations.
• This requires an external installation of the PE conductor.
• Compliance with the requirements according to EN 61439-1.
