APPENDIX 3: How to upgrade the Video VBOX LITE firmware
Occasionally Racelogic will release new versions of firmware (internal code) for the Video VBOX LITE product, often to
introduce new features. New firmware is loaded into the Video VBOX LITE using an SD card.
The latest firmware upgrade (.vidup) file for the Video VBOX LITE is available from the Racelogic website in the
‘Support’ section.
http://www.racelogic.co.uk/?show=VBOX-Downloads-Firmware
If you need the latest update file, download it from the website and copy it to your computer, you will then need to
copy the .vidup file into the root directory of an SD card.
How to Upgrade the Firmware
NB: Before carrying out the firmware upgrade ensure the scene currently loaded into the box has been saved or
exported if it needs to be used again as the Video VBOX LITE will revert back to the default scene once the firmware
upgrade has completed successfully.
To upgrade the firmware, power the Video VBOX LITE and wait until the box has finished initialisation.
Put the ‘.vidup’ upgrade file in the root directory of an SD card and insert into the Video VBOX LITE.
Once the upgrade is complete the Video VBOX LITE will beep twice and resume normal operation.
Once the upgrade is complete the upgrade file will be erased and a report file will be generated.
If the firmware upgrade is to be performed on multiple boxes it is possible to prevent the Video VBOX LITE
from deleting the firmware file once it has successfully upgraded a Box. To do this create a ‘no-delete-
vidup.txt’ file on the SD card in the same directory as the upgrade file, the upgrade file will then remain on
the card following a successful upgrade. The text file should not have any content.
If the upgrade fails for any reason the upgrade file remains on the card and the Video VBOX LITE retains the
previous version of firmware.
Once the firmware upgrade has completed successfully, the VBOX should be power cycled before use.
During the firmware upgrade the Video VBOX LITE Scene will revert back to the default scene, any user
defined Scenes will need to be re-uploaded to the Video VBOX LITE before use.
During the firmware upgrade the Video VBOX LITE will also default back to PAL, if the Video VBOX LITE has
previously been set-up to NTSC it will need to be reconfigured using the Setup software.
