ENGINE OIL
Engine oil is a significant factor in the service life and
performance of the engine. See “2002 Model
Specifications” starting on page 161.
Change the engine oil and clean the filters in
accordance with the maintenance schedule. See
“Maintenance & Adjustment” starting on page68. Service
more frequently under severe conditions.
Checking engine oil
CAUTION
Run the engine for 1 minute before checking or you
will take an inaccurate measurement.
Add in small amounts and recheck the level
between pours.
1. To check the level, start the engine and allow to run for
1 minute at idle speed, then turn off the engine.
2. Remove the right headlight cover.
3. Remove the dipstick.
4. Wipe the dipstick with a clean rag and screw back in
completely. Then remove and inspect the level on the
stick. The oil level should be between the markings on
the dipstick. If low, add a sufficient amount of oil to raise
it to the correct level.
