Telnet
To access the CLI over the network, you must use an
application that has Telnet capabilities. Microsoft
Windows also comes with a suitable program called
‘Telnet’.
The Telnet application (‘Telnet.exe’) can usually be
found in the
Windows
directory on your PC. To start a
Telnet session:
1
Run the ‘Telnet.exe’ application.
The Telnet application’s window appears.
2
From the
Connect
menu, select
Remote System
.
The Connect dialog box appears.
3
Type the IP address of the switch in the
Host name
field, select ‘telnet’ for the
Port
field, and select
‘vt-100’ for the
TermType
field.
4
Click
Connect.
Starting the CLI
The login sequence for the CLI begins as soon as the
switch detects a connection to its console port, or as
soon as a Telnet session is started (over the network).
Logging On
At the login
Login:
prompt, enter a user name.
At the
Password:
prompt, enter the password
(for the user level). You may have already changed the
passwords for the user levels. If you have not, refer to
“Default User Names and Passwords”
a list of the default user names and passwords.
These user names and passwords are stored in the
switch and are the same ones that are used to access
the web interface, so if you change the passwords
using the web interface (which we recommend) you

access the web interface and the CLI. If you forget
your password while logged out of the switch, refer
