Troubleshooting Tips
Introduction
If a job does not start as you expect it to, use these tips to see if you can identify the
problem.
Scan date
Is the start date of the scan later than the current date?
●
A background scan is not scheduled until midnight on the first day of a background
scanning cycle.
●
If, during a closed window, you schedule an ad hoc scan to run during open
windows, the scan does not start until the beginning of the next scanning window.
IP addresses for
discovery
Have you included at least one IP address in your discovery policy?
Assets for
assessment
Does the group you want to run an assessment scan on have assets in it? If you schedule
discovery and assessment policies to run concurrently and you have more than one agent
assigned to the scanning perspective, your assessment scans may start before the
discovery scans have finished. In that case, your groups may contain fewer assets than
you anticipate, or none at all. To avoid this problem, in the Scan Control policy configure
your assessment scan to start after the discovery scan has ended.
Scan window
defined
Have you enabled background scanning in a Scan Control policy without defining a scan
window in a Scan Window policy?
Registered and
authenticated?
Have you verified that your agent is authenticated with SiteProtector? The status in the
Agent view in the SiteProtector Console may be Active, but the agent may not have
authenticated with SiteProtector. To check the authentication status, see “Viewing Status
in the SiteProtector Console” on page 234.
Agent defined for
perspective
If you are using a custom perspective and a scan does not start as expected, make sure that
you have configured the perspective as required:
Important:
No error is reported for this condition in the Remote Scan window.

Make sure that you have…
Network Locations policy
defined a perspective as a network location. (See page 112.)
ESM policy
assigned an agent to that perspective. (See page 110.)
Scan Control policy
identified that perspective as the perspective from which you
want the groups of assets to be scanned. (See page 87.)
