LDV8000 Protocol (RS232 B)
LDV8000 is a RS232 serial protocol for controlling laser disc players. The QuVIS Acuity may be controlled using
this protocol. The 9-pin RS232 port B connector is located at the rear of the Acuity.
Assign the LDV8000 clip file (QShell)
LDV8000 does not understand the concept of clips, so you must instruct the system which one clip or media file to
use for the virtual laserdisc. This done by assigning a clip to the “Protocol,LDVclip” Environment Variable using the
QShell command line interface as shown below.
Set protocol,LDV8000 volume:clips/sampleclip
If the clip name is specified without the full path (including volume name), it is assumed to be in the /LDV directory.
To avoid problems, always specify the full absolute pathnames.
Place the Acuity under remote LDV8000 control
Make sure the Acuity is in the proper play mode for the LDV clip selected. You may do this by selecting the clip
from the front panel and press the PLAY button on the PLAY – Browser menu page and then pressing the STOP
button on the PLAY – Control menu page once playback has started.
Select the RS-232 B Protocol (GUI)
1.
To use the LDV8000 laser disc protocol, navigate to the Serial Setup (2/5) menu page.
2.
Select the serial protocol to be used by clicking on the button labeled RS-232 B protocol to activate a list of
possible choices. Highlight LDV8000 and press the center touchpad button to complete the selection.
Loading a different clip
A new clip or virtual laserdisc may be loaded by changing the protocol,LDVclip Environment Variable, but it will not
take affect until you Reject the current disc (RJ) and spin-up again (SA). You can also load different clips using the
QuVIS-specific extended LU command.
