(6) With lock cylinder and ignition switch in Lock
position, insert lock cylinder into ignition switch
until it bottoms.
(7) Insert ignition key into lock cylinder. While
gently pushing lock cylinder in toward ignition
switch, rotate ignition key to end of travel.
(8) Install retaining screw into bracket and lock
cylinder. Tighten screw to 3
6.5 N·m (2664 in. lbs.)
torque.
(9) Install steering column covers. Tighten screws
to 2 N·m (17 in. lbs.) torque.
(10) If vehicle is equipped with a tilt steering col-
umn, install tilt lever.
(11) Connect negative cable to battery.
(12) Check for proper operation of halo light, shift
lock (if applicable), and column lock. Also check for
proper operation of ignition switch accessory, lock,
off, run, and start positions.
SHIFTER/IGNITION INTERLOCK
On models equipped with an automatic transmis-
sion, a cable connects the ignition switch with the
floor shift lever. The shifter will be locked in the
PARK position when the ignition key is in the LOCK
or ACCESSORY positions. The cable can be adjusted
or replaced. Refer to Group 21, Transmissions for
procedures. The ignition interlock device within the
steering column is not serviceable. If service is nec-
essary, the steering column must be replaced. Refer
to Group 19, Steering for procedures.
